18/10/11 Aboard the Kaitaki 'Challenger'. Cook Strait
We are being subjected to a French 'Ompah Band' on this Inter-islander ferry to Picton.
Not the best of things to contend with when one is feeling a tad 'sea-sick'.
Having endured the cacophony down in the cafe bar, we went out onto the sun-deck to escape them, only to be followed by a wandering contingent, hell bent on subjecting us to their 'Musique de Rue'
Out on deck though, it is positively breathtaking, and with the wind in our hair, (well mine) we can see the snow-capped mountains of the south island away in the distance. A tantalising glimpse of what's to come. Hilariously, a gust of wind blew Ian's hat off and down onto the deck below. Luckily, he was able to retrieve it. I was hoping it would 'bob' off on the crest of a wave!
We leave behind the Northland, the closest region to the equator, and head south to Picton to continue our tour in the South Island.
As we approach the there is no other way to describe the scenery, other than 'jaw dropping and awesome and amazing and......so on!
Sorry can't show you pictorially, we left the camera lead at home!
