Days 26 and 27 - Thats not a knife... That's a spoon!
Day 26 begins with an early morning because everyone in our room has to check out so we can move rooms! This is a massive pain in the arse!! Oh well, we make the best of it and go down to the pool to top our tans up! We get chatting to a few people all day, sink a few pints and have a cracking, properly chilled out day! We decided that since we're doing a trip called 'Uncle Brian's' tomorrow, we're to have a quiet night! We head out to pj o'brian's for our supper and the two Essex girls who were in the room before us are working so we all get a massive meal, (I have ribs and chips) and a small beer for $5!! That's one way to make a man's appetite come back let me tell you! I absolutely devour this food and sink this beer and luckily Roel had the same deal but also got a giant bowl of potato wedges! I help him finish these in no time!! Delicious!!
Earlier in the day we decided that after supper we would go and see Skyfall because it was the opening night for it in oz, so we bought our tickets earlier in the day so we'd get a seat each! I LOVED this film, brilliant from start to finish, James Bond back to the way it should be!! Best bond for a LONG time! The film finishes at about 00:15 so we head straight to bed, ahead of a very exciting day on Uncle Brian's!!
Day 27
Day 27 begins with an early start to catch 'Gus the bus' which is the cheerful name the Uncle Brian's team have given the bus! I'd better explain what Uncle Brian's, it's described as a rainforest and waterfall tour, where you go around visiting various waterfalls in the rainforest... Pretty self explanatory but hey ho!!
So we're greeted on Gus the bus by Cuz Rohan(pronounced rowan), what a legend this guy is! So happy and smiley for this time in the morning! All the drivers and guides are named cuz (cousin) before their name because uncle brian doesn't actually do the tours anymore! So Rohan takes us on Gus the bus to our first stop on the tour which is a place called the Devils pools, this is a gorgeous spot where we have a walk through the rainforest to a few viewing platforms of this place! Stunning!! We take a few pictures and then head back up to the part where you can swim! We have a refreshing swim in the creek and go back up to Gus the bus for a bit of a morning snack, with a bit of juice or water with biscuit and cake! Then it's back onto Gus the bus and onto our next stop which is Josephine falls, there's another walk through the rainforest up to the falls! I know I've said this a lot on this trip already and I'll say it again with no hesitation, this is one of the most amazingly gorgeous places I've ever seen! At this falls there is a rock slide that you can slide down into the pool at the bottom! We're all dead keen for this so we jump in, Rohan is sat at the bottom of the slide taking lots of pictures of everyone going down in various poses! The best one for me was called the cowboy, I was lying on my front and then Ellie sat on my back and we slid down like that! We went down the slide loads of times and we didn't want to stop! This is some of the most fun I've ever had! I'm gutted to be leaving here but we've got a lunch stop to go to! All along the journey we're playing games and singing songs, it's properly catered for a family atmosphere but it really fits for young travellers too as we're all keen to get stuck into the really silly fun!
After a bit of a drive we're up on 'the tablelands, this is a plateau like area of cleared rainforest that's now mostly agricultural land! It all looks very familiar as a lot of the views would not look a bit out of place at home! (Well apart from the cloudless sky and sun)! Here, we go for a spot of lunch, which is HUGE, it's chicken drumsticks with cous cous, salad and homemade bread! Lovely! We have a hot chocolate pudding with ice cream and a beer also! Then we're back on Gus for a very short trip to 'millaa millaa' falls, also known as the 'Peter Andre' falls or the 'timotei' falls, it's one of the places where Peter Andre filmed a version of the mysterious girl video and where they did a timotei advert with a girl who flips her hair back out of the water, we all do this flick to get a good picture of the arc of water that's created when you flick out of the water! I'm the first one to go, with everyone watching... I don't care because I'm loving my new and much more slimline figure, don't get me wrong I'm still big but I'm tiny compared to 4 months ago when I was a whale!! We have a swim up to the waterfall and sit behind it for a while, it's quite cold here (or refreshing as cuz Rohan says) we don't care because this place is again a beautiful place!! We're dragged away again and we head to our final swimming spot which is a place called lake eacham, it's a large old volcanic crater that over many many years had filled with rainwater! We have a wander round the lake to see some little turtles, some fish and crayfish then we go for a little swim! Loved this place because the late afternoon sun was shining on to the still water and lighting the place up like Christmas! We have some hot chocolate and marshmallows and a muffin for a bit of late afternoon tea and then we're back on Gus and we're off to our second to last stop which is a short drive to a creek where you can spot platypuses!! They're a lot smaller in real life, David Attenborough is a devious dog on those programs, leading us to believe a platypus is huge! When they're not any longer than a piece of A4 paper! I get what pictures I can of them with my rubbish iPhone camera (I really need to get a proper camera for the rest of this trip) and head back to Gus and we head up to this hostel for a beer and to pay for the trip! After this we head back to Gus the wonder bus and back to cairns, singing and dancing along to classic cheesy music! What a day!! It's up there in the best days of my life!! Breaking the top 3 easily!! We get back to gilligans and say goodbye to Rohan with a big hug! We head straight out to a bottle shop to buy some goon as its our last night! We hit it hard and head downstairs to get on it and do a bit of dancing! Then it's a couple of goodbyes to Roel and Ellie, sad ones too, I'll definitely be keeping in touch with those two!! I head to bed after a near perfect day ready to see what the rest of the east coast has to offer! Magnetic island next!!
