We've made it back to London! Yesterday, we rested for most of the day (especially because we had to board a bus to Rome Airport at 4AM, so we didn't get much sleep). Our flight back to London from Rome was with Ryan air, and we only paid 25Euro, $35.00 TOTAL for 2 people!!! We thought the price was outrageously low and Will was convinced we'd be crop dusting on our way up to London, but thank goodness, we were in a normal passenger airplane. The difference was it was like a 2 hour infomercial. They tried to sell you everything, from magazines, to food, drinks, perfume, clothes, gadges, you name it! But hey, for $35 for 2 people, it was SO worth it!
In the evening we took the bus to the London Eye, which is a Gigantic Ferris Wheel, that gives you a pretty amazing view of London from 450 feet up in the air. They call a ride a 'flight', and it lasts about 30 minutes to go all the around. We were lucky enough to catch a lot of the sunset from the london eye, and it was quite beautiful over the River thames.
Today, we did a little sightseeing, from the tower of london, to the bridge, to the westminster abbey and cathedral. Tonight we are excited because we have tickets to "Wicked", the broadway musical.
London is cold, rainy, and SOOOO expensive!!! Even a pizza hut lunch buffet is 4.99pounds, which is almost $11!!! Our hotel is 44 pounds/night, which is about $92.00 and we are once again in the attic, (up about 7 flights of steep stairs) and have to share a bathroom. This is one of the more expensive rooms we've had to stay at and it is probably the worst in conditions we've had to deal with thus far.
Navigating through rush hour on a bus is insane. It is seriously faster to walk at a slow pace then to ride the bus through town. On top of that, it costs 2.00 pounds per person for a SINGLE ride on ONE bus (no transfers!) ONE way, 3.50 pounds for a day pass. The subway is even more expensive at 4.00 pounds per ride per person one way, or 7.10 pounds for a day pass (remember, you double and add a little for how much it would cost in US$).
Eating is even more ridiculous, with subway charging 1.99 pounds for a six-inch sub of the day, and it just gets worse from there.
Luckily, we are staying next to a grocery store, so it is plenty of bread and nutella for us, not such a bad deal.
Tomorrow we're going to Bath, then Stonehenge to see what that's all about.
Thursday we're heading home! We just can't believe how fast these last 3 weeks have gone!!!
