Hello hello! Sorry for the blogging delay, we have had such a busy few days, which we will tell you all about now.
Starting with Fraser Island, a truly mindblowing place, the only place in the world where rainforest grows on sand, and despite the big beautiful beaches, you are unable to swim anywhere due to the shark infested seas. However the island is filled with gorgeous freshwater lakes which make a fantastic alternative, especially when you don't shower for 3 days!
There were 10 people per 4x4, and there were 4 cars in total in our convoy, our tents and camping equipment stacked on top of the vehicle. Naturally, being in Australia, there were terrential rainstorms for the 1st day and night, but by the evening who could really tell what was rain and what was goon?! For our first night, we camped in an 'im a celebrity' style rainforest campsite, bonding with other groups, playing some games and having a right old laugh!
We had a cracking group altogether- chef sarah, a 40 year old cook who really made the trip fantastic with her delicious meals and her 'go get 'um' attitude. Everyone was up for getting stuck in and made the trip very easy and enjoyable. In ape like fashion, John especially enjoyed jumping on top of the cars to help pack the roof. Whilst on the topic of fashion, check out the sexy binbag he was sporting for the 1st evening.
On the 2nd day, the weather cleared up enough for us to visit the famous Lake McKenzie where the water is so pure you can drinkit. It also meant that we were allowed to camp on the beach, stealth missioning across the sands at high tides trying to avoid the waves and getting stuck. After a stressful 1/2 hour of bailing out other groups and trying to pitch tents in the fading light, we were all enjoying another wonderful dinner and ready to party on the beach under the stars.
The next morning it was time to head back to the mainland, all sad to be leaving, but all in good need of a shower. We made our way back across the bumpy terrain of the roads and back on to the ferry, having thoroughly enjoyed our 4x4 adventure.
