Hello Hello again, we still have much to tell you about since our departure from Frasers, it really has been the most eventful few days of our trip so far!
Our next stop was the small town of 1770, the only town with a date for a name! We were staying only for a few days in a lovely little hostel called Cool Bananas and being the last place on the east coast it was safe to swim, we made the most of the beautiful beach. Apart from that there wasn't much else to do, apart from 'Scooterooing' which had been recomended to us previously by an Oz Experience driver. As the name suggests, Scooterooing is a kangaroo safari around the local area on chopper bikes or scooters! A group of 60 of us went out together, and all had a saftey briefing before our departure, although were pretty certain we were missing some saftey requirements apart from our helmets which we had taken careful delibiration in choosing, ensuring the helmet complimented our bike!
Our guide proudly boasted that no one in his group had EVER had an accident, but then again he had never had Victoria White in his group before...
2 hours in to the trip, we had spotted many kangaroos already, and had agreed that the afternoon had been a highlight of the trip, despite the pouring rain (hope that explains the lack of tanning!) We were all eager to get back on our bikes and keep going. Unfortunalty, on aproaching a junction the group in front of Tors began to brake suddenly, and to avoid collision she did the same, but due to the poor weather conditions she couldn't control her bike and flew over the handlebars onto the road.
Everybody stopped and rushed over to her, and although she sat up straight away, unconcused it was obvious she would need some medical assistance. We checked for neck and back injuries and broken bones and luckily she was ok, however there was a large amount of her knee missing and she was sporting a rather unfabulous fat lip.
Carefuly we got her in a car and our friend Steve supported her on the way to the ambulance which was waiting in the town, as the medical centres were closed. She was cleaned up and bandaged, but still needed some stiches, so Liz very kindly found us a car (our guides car) and we set off 2 hours in the wrong direction to Bunderburg hospital on a rather impromtue road trip!
At 2am we got out of the hospital with Tors fully bandaged up, following an Xray, 6 stitches, 12 injections and 3 handsome doctors! Ever the lady, she spent most of the car ride home telling us all in detail about her painful ordeal, kindly producing many pictures of her various wounds and visit to the hospital.
Arriving back at the hostel at 4.30 am we decided it would be most sensible to get up at 8am and take her to a cattle ranch in the outback, so after sourcing some crutches and perscription only medication from a friendly old man, we grabbed the kindly nicknamed 'cripple' and set out to the wilderness!
