Highlights of Ica, we had great menú when we first got there. Menú is the 'meal of the day'. Many local restaurants serve this, it's usually soup and a main dish, my favorite is caldo de pollo/chicken soup and trucha frita/fried trout. often you can choose from a few options. And it is by far the best deal in town 6-8 soles, instead of 15-20. (exchange rate 3:1).
But yes we had a delicious meal and then got a taxi out of town to this oasis in the desert called Wacachina. Basically a lake surrounded by big sand dunes. The lake is surrounded by hotels and restaurants. Most people go sand boarding down the dunes, we did not but it looked pretty cool.
The next day we had quite an adventure joining our friends from Lima at their family reunion that was happening nearby. We stood out quite a bit, but it was every fun. Will even got to represent one branch of the family in an eating contest ;)! Video to be posted later. It was a great group of people and we were honored to be included.
After that we got on an overnight bus to the second biggest city in Peru, Arequipa. Known as the white city for its buildings made from a special type of stone.
