Where's Suzie?
Where to start....I think I've forgotten most of what's gone on but I'll give it a go.
Arrived here last Saturday morning after a long sleepless flight. Bumped into a girl from BAT on the plane who was going to Rio on business so bummed a lift from her back to the hotel. Didn't do much during the day but went out in the evening with Monica (the bride), a couple of her friends and some friends of Andrew's that had arrived earlier that week.
Sunday morning I met up with Kirsty (BAT girl) and we went to the hippy market and sat by the beach for a bit. In the afternoon a friend of Monica's took those of us in the wedding party to a football match at the famous Maracana stadium to watch a local derby between Flamengo and Botofogo (both fighting relegation!). The stadium was huge and was built for the 1950 world cup and was where Brazil famously lost in the final to Uruguay. Back then it held 200,000 people but now that it's all seated it holds around 80,000. Although the match was a nil nil draw and the stadium wasn't quite full it was a fantastic atmosphere. Just what you'd expect from a brazilian footie match, a constant drumming throughout the game, lots of flares and ticker tape. Didn't really learn any new footie songs apart from \"Mengo....Mengo\" (sung in the style of \"Eagles\").
I have got lots of photos from this but I'm having problems uploading them.....it takes aaaaaages!! I'll sign off for now while I try to remember what I did on Monday, Tuesday......
Bye xxxx
