Went to Nagoya. Lovely weather but I felt a bit s*** for some reason, had my first crap day here. Visited the castle which had lovely grounds but that was about it. Decided to skip takayama as it sounded a bit boring and headed for Kyoto today. Seems like there is loads to do and see here so will probably stay for four days but currently have two days booked in a dorm for 15 pounds per night.
The main sightseeing area in Kyoto is the Hahashiyama area which I have decided to save for tomorrow. Today I concentrated on the station area, central Kyoto and downtown kyoto. Visited a couple of temples near the station which were very grand. When I went inside people were on their knees praying so felt sort of out of place. Oddly enough the same people were taking photographs outside, tourism and relgion rolled into one. Also went to a Japanese garden near by. Lonely planet said it was free but it actually cost 500 yen and by the time I was at the gate it was to late to turn back. I must have been the only person under 60. Japanese old women are worse than British old women, I swear they get in your way on purpose. Japanese old men are the worst though, they always walk with their hands behind their backs and contemplate each step like it is their last. With that being said it was a lovely day again and the garden was really pretty and relaxing. Lovely carp ponds and the autumn fiolage was beutiful. I swear something is wrong with me, I havn:t got pissed since Sunday and am starting to appreciate gardens. While I am at conflict with the old man inside me I have always embraced my geeky side so headed for the Kyoto manga musuem which had some decent displays and gave a good summary of the history of manga. From there I checked out Niski market which is a long roofed street feeled with food stands. From there I headed the the imperial palace park but did not stay long as it was getting dark and chilly. My first impressions of Kyoto are great, think I will like it here.
