Driving over the Tioga Pass from Bishop into Yosemite National Park was both stunninigly beautiful and very scary. If you think the rock falls on Chapman's Peak used to pose a danger to passing traffic, you need to see this mountain pass. We couldn't believe what we were seeing. Huge rocks appear to balance on just about nothing right above the road, which has no safety net and it really looked as it they were going to come tumbling down any second. It was bizarre.
Yosemite is stunning. The autumn colours in the park were just amazing. We stayed in a lodge right by Yosemite Falls, which is the 5th largest waterfall in the world. There is no water at this time of year, but the scenery is still breathtaking. We arrived just in time for sunset.
The next morning we enjoyed a delicious breakfast at the Ahwahnee, which dates back to 1926 - a very impressive place. We then embarked on a 4-hour hike to Vernal and Nevada Falls and really enjoyed the fresh air, the exercise, and the beautiful birdlife as well as the squirrels and chipmonks. We were really hoping to see a mountain lion or a bear, but no such luck. The only bear we saw was the stuffed one in the shop. We had a great time in Yosemite though - the scenery was fantastic.
