Well what can I say,Bali what a wonderful place. The only regret withBali is we only spent one day there. It was banged out with coconuts and bananas. The people are friendly willing to help and gentle. We met up with a taxi driver and he took us all over the place for US$30. We saw rice paddies and old traditional villages. It was breathtaking, it has been a really positive experience. It has been a baking hot day with really high humidity but hey better that a sharp frost. The street pedlars are quality. I've brought some faux watches and sunglasses, and never had so much fun doing so. Really the people are so nice and friendly, if you ever get a chance to come here then do it in a heartbeat.
The traditional village was right up in the hills where family values are valued. It's has been a great leveller as to what is really important in life. These people are poor in our terms but so rich so many other ways. We saw whole families harvesting rice field and shaking the rice grains into a wheelbarrow all by hand. When you see the amount of labour involved it makes you think again when you cook too much rice and just to throw away the excess! I'm just getting soft but it hits you that way here. The land is so lush and green.
Traffic here is good sport, no license required just need to be 17. drive on any side of the road you like and make sure you use the horn a lot! Saw a bloke on a moped with about 200 buckets hanging on him what a sight.
We got back the the embarkation point and the skies opened monsoon. It was welcome to ease the humidity. So as I write this I'm holed up in a bar drinking Bintang the local brew. The rain has left us in a bar with the local touts hovering outside. The beer has had its effect and I am now the proud owner of a watch two pairs of sunglasses and a sarong!
brilliant brilliant so impressed. I love Bali.
Off to a Country and Western night tonight that will be a hoot half taking it so serious, line dancing an all, not noticing the other half taking the piss.
Just another day in paradise.
