Day 13- 29th August- Rolla MO- Lincoln IL.
Today we decided to head towards St Louis, hoping to travel as far as about Springfield IL with in the day. We called at some really cool small towns including Fanning, Cuba, MO where there is the worlds largest Rocking Chair and it had a pretty neat shop next to it too. There was some taxidermy and at the back there was an archery shooting area. We made the lady laugh by calling sweaters, jumpers; we brought some presents Rhiannon and Huw and then continued on our way.
We went through Cuba, and Sullivan before reaching our next stop at Stanton, where we got to see the Meramec caverns which is basically 16miles of caves. It was really impressive and although the tour guide was a little irritating especially as she couldn't say Water, Stalagmites and Stalactites properly.
We then drove through a few more small towns where I enjoyed a nap, and we then arrived in the city of St Louis, where 5 out of the 6 of us went up to the top of the arch. It was really great to be somewhere we had been before, although we did end up seeing the Bronx of St Louis when the sat nav took us to the Hard Rock- where we finally were able to get food! It had to be one of the smallest Hard Rock Café's I've visited but Bethan was able to get another glass to add to her collection.
We then walked back to the car and headed out of the city towards Springfield, passing into the state of Illinois! We ended up going past Springfield as David was looking for a Day's inn and there wasn't one there, we ended up staying in a Super 8 motel as it was getting late and we needed to stop. We did end up going into the pool but it was more so that we could loosen up after our long achy day.
