The journey from Koh Phangan was certainly an interesting one! But we finally made it after a jeep ride, an overnight boat, a pick-up truck ride, a tuk tuk ride, a minibus, a coach, another boat ride and then a taxi boat!
We decided to stay on Hat Yao which means Long Beach which you reach by taxi boat or a 45 minute hike through the jungle- I don't need to say which one we opted for! There are only 3 resorts on Long Beach and we got a room at the Paradise Resort. It was a bit more expensive than what we had been paying but it was worth it. It was right on the beach and it was a nice treat to have a hot shower!
The beach is beautiful and it faces Koh Phi Phi Leh where "The Beach" was filmed. We hired a kayak and also did some snorkelling around the area apparently you can see reef sharks if you are lucky- we weren't! The snorkelling was almost as good as what we saw diving in Koh Tao.
We took a boat trip around the island and visited Koh Phi Phi Leh, it was a real adventure getting on to the actual beach like in the film. We got out of our boat and had to swim over to the rocks where we rambled through a hole in the rocks but the waves kept covering the hole so you had to time it just right! Then a walk over a rocky area (with no shoes because you've just been swimming) which leads to a green part which eventually turns into sand and you arrive on the beach that old Leo was on! We also visited Monkey Island which was obviously invaded by monkeys who were quite scary as they tried to get food off of people.
