The One Ball Rally
After a manic 6 hour drive from Mpumlanga we are now in Jo'burg! It is not recommended you drive around Jo'burg becuase of car hijackings so once at the hotel Avis will collect the car. We are staying in an area called Sandton which is suppossed to be a business area and the safest around Jo'burg. We are staying in a City Lodge which is just like a Travel Inn really. We were told that the best place to go of an evening was Sandton City, it is a mall with bars and restaurants. However, you need to get taxis around as you are told it is not safe to wander around the streets even after 4pm! We had no trouble though and didn't hear of anything during our time there. There are occasional beggars when you stop at traffic lights but that was it. We spent both evenings at Sandton City as recommended. We ate in a nice restaurant called Montego Bay which is a Seafood restaurant on Nelson Mandela Square and we had huge platters with prawns, langoustine, crayfish ... Lovely if you like Shellfish! We did a tour of Jo'burg and Soweto which was really interesting. We are really not normally ones for sight seeing and museums but we found out about the June 16th Uprising in 1976. The Hector Pieterson museum is well worth a visit. We even went to Nelson Mandela's house!
Long journey ahead of us now flying to Delhi but stopping at Hong Kong for 14 hours in between!
