If like SongHi & I, you enjoy walking & stunning countryside in England then I think it's hard to beat the Lake District.....Lucky for us, we even timed it well by being there at the start of autumn. We caught the train up on the 18th & in just over two hours had booked into our B&B called No.80 (very unique..!!), in the small hamlet of Bowness on the edge of Lake Windermere & perfectly located for the 5 walks we ended up doing while we were there. The area is steeped in Roman & 15th century history and it's incredible to see some of this history still standing to this day....The walks we did were between 2 & 4 hours and lead us through a variety of scenery & landscape, with some outstanding views of Lake Windermere and the surrounding villages & towns....Bowness is at about the halfway point of the lake & a typical quaint old English village with plenty of pubs, restaurants & b&b's.Fortunately, with the weather starting to cool down,it was not as crowded with tourists as we'd expect in the summer......With neither of us being much for cruises & boating,we even surprised ourselves in talking each other into a 40 minute cruise on the lake followed by a 1hr steam train ride from the village of Lakeshore at the southern end of lake Windermere."A nice break from walking through muddy & wet paddocks I guess"..
