L: We spent the morning lazing by the pool and then decided to venture out to Malibu pier and beach. Malibu is not what you would expect, not exactly PamelaAnderson running along the silky golden sand with azure blue seas. The pier was quaint though with a few local fishermen hoping to catch some seafood dinners (despite the signs warning against any consumption of the potential toxic shellfish - nice!). A stroll along the beach was pleasant enough with kids dipping their toes in the cold pacific ocean for the first time. A few surfer dudes were out on their longboards, easily catching 3-4ft waves, the best one was caught by a silver haired chap, surely the perfect way to retire!
Fuelled by my many cheesy gossip mags, I coudn't resist a walk along 'billionaire's row', where the glitteratti dwell during the summer months. Their sumptuous beachhouses back directly onto the beach which is clearly regarded as private property - apart from up to the tide mark where any member of the public can walk! Like deranged paps we scuttled under the wire fencing and headed along the very narrow wet sand, obviously not something you attempt at high tide - doh! The beachhouses were nice but not really mega celebrity stuff...Angelina and Brad's was cut off by high seas, damn! After being twarted by the sea, we ran back under the wire fencing with Dave narrowly missing a water pasting and ventured to Jack in the Box burger joint for icecream.
The evening was spent generally circling Santa Monica for a parking space and a tasty Thai dinner to finish. Tomorrow Universal Studios!!
