Backpack Party!!
Hello! As promised I have finally found a gap in this busy computers' schedule to update my likkle blog for you...finally!!
Where did I leave you all?? I think I left off at about last Friday so I will tell you about that!
After spending the (very long) day at CIADS, I arived home to be informed that there was a favela party being held at Julio Otoni, just down the road. (I felt that this may be a bit dubious, but the other volunteers assured me that it was right in the courtyard at the entrance, and not well in to the favela.Plus, some of the volunteers work there in the day time anyway, so they reassured me that they knew everybody that would be there as well.)
It was actually really fun!! It was some kind of festival celebrating some French Ancestors or something, which I didnt really understand....but, anyway...
It was really random, it was basically all the little children dancing in the centre of the yard all night, but the girls were all dressed in wedding dresses, with doll make-up on, and the boys were all dressed up as grooms, with curly moustaches drawn on their faces!(there were a few girls dressed up as grooms, too...I had to feel kinda sorry for them! I didnt actually see why this was, either!)lol.
But then, after all the cute traditional dancing had been done, they cranked up this massive sound system, the size of,like, an average semi detatched house, and started bumping out good old funky Brazil- at which point all the kids ripped off their sweet costumes and promptly proceeded to bump and grind around together like nobodys business! It was all rather disconcerting, as they all are, really rather young!!(I must say, however, and quite worryingly, they all are really quite good at it though!!)
Me and Andrea decided to leave a tad early though, as we had to get up at 5am to get to the bus station to go to Paraty.(I know Im an old bean!!But a girl needs her beauty sleep you know!!lol)
Anyway we get to the bus station on Saturday morning, all absolutely knackered and favela partied out....O.My.Golly.
Remember I told you all about my very most favouritest method of Brazilian transport? The oblivion buses...well...forget them! They didnt have a patch on the wacky races-esque methods of coach driving that I was subjected to!!
Literally, the whole 4 and a half hour journey, I was being thrown out of my seat and holding on for my precious dear life!(you are not going to dir Vicky, you are not going to die!!lol) (my anxiety not helped at all by the fact that most of the roads resembled what may be described as a piece of wriggly spaghetti....with a vertical drop to almost certain death on rocks and boulders 100ft below!hmmmmm twas so much fun!!!) Well.At least when I get back Paulo's eratic driving will seem like a leisurely stroll through the park! lol! hehehehe.
Mum, you should really consider taking your bus of doom on that route! That'll sure teach 'em!!!lol.mwahahaha!!
OOO...before I forget, talking of Parks, in Central, there are these really frieky little animal things! They are like, a squirrel head, with a ginuea pig body, with feathery kinda fur on their backs! they are so....messed up I tell thee!! But, they only live in Central Park (hehe Friends)and not anywhere else, so I will let them off, as they cannot friek me out on a regular basis if I just avoid that area!lol.(It does make me wonder, though-how DID these things come about!? But, there again I could say that for some of the "people" that I am aquainted with, too!lol.
Back to Paraty...Saturday...bit of a wasted day, really, as we just went to the beach and stuffed our faces-which was quite fun in its own right-but, I could have done that in Rio! I was bummed out as I wanted to go and do some proper tourist action!!!But, o well...
Sunday, went on a boat trip around the islands surrounding Paraty-which was really beautiful.(I decided not to take Worcester sause for the sea sickness this time though-to anybody who is aware of this story from South Africa! To anybody who is not-NEVER trust a sweet ,old sailor-tour-guide-guy who tells you that swigging Worcester sauce before a boat journey will cure your travelling woes-this is a blatant lie, and only ever leads to projectile bile vomiting on an unsuspecting German guys' camera...while it is recording...and having your own hair coverred in your own breakfast!ewwww! hmmm....vomit....because Im worth it!!!hehehehehehe)
Anyway, it was really pretty, but me being albino and all-even with my factor 40 literally cemented all over my entire body, still could not prevent the dreaded heat rash from occuring, so I spent most of the trip with a sarong wrapped around my head and shoulders, with my oversized, black sunnies on, looking like Lawrence of bloody Arabia!!!(one of my most stylish looks to date, I asure you all!!lol.) There are pictures of this, but, they are all saved onto this computer, as they are from other peeps' files, and I dunno how to get them onto my site- I am the worlds largest authentic technophobe, after all-so if anybody could enlighten me-much obliged!!
Also, I am proud to announce, that I semi-conquered my dislike of the ocean, and actually jumped off the boat and swam to shore!!Go Vicky, Go Vicky!
Im not gonna lie though, I only did it because it wasn't that far to swim, and the water was clear and shallow!!!lol.
And thats about all from Paraty, really-if I think of anything else, I will be sure to update you accordingly!!
Love you all, miss you all! Wish you were all here with me!!!(not everybody totally appreciates the random nature of the person that I am!!!lol)
speak to you all again when I think of something to erite-or something really random occurs!
mmmwwwwwaaaaaa!
