Well...Christmas is over and done with for another year...where did it go???
Christmas in Oz was a very random experience indeed..nothing at all like what resembles Christmas in England, but it was a good one that I am sure that I will never forget, nontheless!!!
Mum and I spent the Christmas Eve at St Andrews Cathedral, as I said, listenning to the Carols and service there, which was lovely, although there was a bit of a scary bit when Aa woman in the row in front of us started to have an epileptic fit, and some guy had to hoist her out over his shoulder quickly!! I think that she was ok, though, as he came back in a few minutes later...
I stayed overnight at Mums hostel as planned to wake up on Christmas morning without the dreaded bug filled room that would have extinguished any hint of Christmas joy that lay within me...and I enjoyed the proper mattress so much that I did something unheard of at Christmastime, and had a lie in until 11o clock!!! It was rather surprising!!!
Mum and I started the eating straight away, as we had bought some of the customary Xmas essentials, including a box of chocolate miniatures etc, and started the slow and steady continuous munch(although, as always I munched considerably more than mum...)
We exchanged presents and stuff- Mum bought me a nice new watch as my other one was a little scruffy from all the travelling, and some lovely jewellery and a new top (I felt spoilt!) The weather in the morning wasnt that great, so we decided to not venture to the beach, but then in the afternoon the sun was blazing bright, which was a little bit wierd considerring that I was wearing one of those red fluffy hats, but was all good all the same!!
After a Christmas snooze, Mum and I proceeded to have the strangest "Christmas Dinner" that I have ever eaten in my entire life!! (actually..its the first time that I havent had the Turkey/trimings stuff...but I suppose that the turkey was a no-go anyway...)
It consisited of...(wait for it) Curry Pasta, mixed bean salad, sundried tomatoes, french bread and smoked salmon!! (with a few crackers and cheese, a mince pie, a few more chocolates and a bit of toblerone...you gotta have the toblerone if nothing else!! to follow!!!)hahahaha.
Oh well...I enjoyed it all the same! Even if it wasnt a "proper Christmas dinner" it was still an exquisite meal by present standards!!!lol. And I still felt like a fat pig at the end of the day, so I suppose the traditional Christmas was observed in some way!!
At about 7pm, I left Mum to go back to the hose and meet my room mate, Marie for the evening, as Mum had wanted to do the exciting task of clearing all her videos from the camers onto DVD...which takes blody ages and is about as interesting as watching Eastenders...despite my protests, and asking her to come out with me, but she said that she had to do it as she had no more room on the memory to do anything else until she cleared it..so reluctantly, I went on the treck through Alfred Park, wearing my Christmas Hat....which, upon reflection, was a big mistake...
As there were numerous drunken men located in there, playing cricket, who decided to launch the cricket ball at me in an attampt to get my attention (luckily, they were too drunk to actually have a good aim!) and were shouting all the stupid inuendos that you can think of about Santas Sack and Balls at me....yawn....
It wasnt until I left the park that I realised that my dress had somewhat risen to a dangerously high level, as it had become attatched to my bag, and I was showing more that would be considerres modest.....oooops!!!!! But, it was rather funny I suppose!!! (lucky that I had my Bridget Jones' knickers on that day, eh?)hahahaha. DOH!!!!!
When I arrived back at the house, I was absolutely knackered, and needed half an hours rest before setting off out with Marie. We decided to go to the Opera House and see it all lit up by night, and take a few piccies...which was about a 50 minute walk from where we were.
Marie stopped to refuel at Mcdonalds en route, which I was surprised was actually open at 10pm on Christmas Day..and it was absolutely heaving!!!! What is the world coming to eh???
We arrived at the Opera House, that was very busy, as a load of other people had obviously had the same idea, and took a few nice piccies and stuff, when we were approached by a group of Indidan Guys that asked if they could borrow my Santa hat to take a pic with it on.
Even though I didnt really want to give it to them, I thought that I better had, as it wouldnt be very much keeping with the Christmas spirit otherwise, which was another big mistake (damn the Christmas Hat!!!) as they then took it upon themselves to plonk themselves by us, and asked if they could take a pic of Marie and I...
We thought that it was alittle bit wierd, but said yes anyway....but after the 20th photo (seriously) it was getting to be more than slightly annoying...and they still werent going away, and were blatantly trying to chat us up, although Marie has a boyfriend, and I just was blatantly so uninterested it was untrue....but they just werent getting the hint at all...so after about 20 minutes, Marie and I made a swift run for it, leaving them calling after us, and thinking that they were going to follow us...but luckily, they had FINALLY gotten the hint and pissed off!!
(I thoughtt that it would have been quite funny to have been chased around the Sydney Opera house on Christmas Day, actually, but never mind....)hehehehe.
Most of the bars and clubs had shut by this time, and we ended up arriving back at our place at about 12.30, absolutely shattered from walking the length of the whole of Sydney twice, so went to bed swiftly, as we had arranged to meet Mum at 9.30 in the morning to go and see the Sydney to Hobart boat race leave.
Miraculously, I actually woke up before the 8am alarm (what was going on there then??).It may have been ecause it was an absolutely gorgeous sunny morning, and I couldnt wait to get my shorts on!! (shorts...on Boxing Day??? Its just too wierd!!!)lol. But good!!!
We met, and walked to Darling Harbour, but we soon realised that we were at the wrong Harbour...DOH!! And that we needed to be at the Sydney Opera House...so off we toddled AGAIN on another lap of the city to get there...
We arrived at about 12 and the race was scheduled to start at 1, so we walked around the Opera House for a while in the Sunshine, and then went through to the Botanic Gardens where we were allegedly supposed to see the boats leave from, and took a good spot on one of the rocks there and waited in anticipation.....
....and waited.......
.....and waited....until about 2pm, by which time, everyone was starting to look at eachother as if to say, "are we here on the right day???" but Mum, Marie and I figured that we had somehow missed it, although we wanderred how you could miss a load of boats going past...(%**&**%) and decided that we were starving and that we needed to eat at once, so left.
Which was a bit of a disappointment, but at least we had the chance to catch a few rays whilst we waited, and we did see a few nice boats going past..but all in all...it was a bit of a non-starter!!!
So...we walked through the rest of the Botanic Gardens, which are absolutely massive, and really beautiful, and took in some more of the sunand the lovely gardens...we were all very shocked to look up and see bloody loads of BATS hanging from the trees!!! In the sunlight!!!
(I always thought that they were nocturnal...and preffered the dark, but that just shows how much I know...!) It was a bit frieky!!!!
We eventually found a cheap and decent place to eat, at a Malaysian resteraunt, which we were all very thankful for, and then it was getting quite late, so we decided to head off home again.
In the evening, Marie and I were too tired to bother going out anywhere, so rather decided to stay in and play card games with the lads, but we didnt have any cards apart from Uno cards...which I had never played before...
Of course, everyone thought that I would easily loose..as I am admittedly just rubbish at card games, but to their surprise, and mine, I ended up beating their asses 3 times (thankyou very much!) and went to bed victorious!! (as I do every day...hehehe) HA! Suckers!!!lol.
And thats about it for now, that was my Christmas here in Sydney!!! It was eventful!!
I hope that you all had as gooder Christmas as I did!?
Apart from that, I havent really got anything else to tell you about, as today all I have done so far is written this...and Im not going to write about that now, am I?
Anyway....smell you later. Its a beautiful, sunny, Summers Day in Sydney, and I want to get out and enjoy it whilst I can!!!
So...I will update again soon!!
Take care everybody!!!
