Just got back this morning from a trip to Maravaggi Beach Resort which is on Florida Island. Now that is more like what I was expecting the Solomon Islands to be (just like the above picture). It took two hours to get there in a 6-seater speedboat thing, spent most of the time with my eyes closed as sea water soaked us! Spent the afternoon snorkelling, seeing thousands of tropical fish (including Nemos) and swimming around the coral reefs. The food there was disgusting (they like to cook chicken here with bones and skin and some feathers still attached) but plenty of it so I didn't starve, just forced it down. We stayed in a little hut on the beach which was beautiful, the whole weekend was lovely, spent lying in the sun or being in the sea. This is the first weekend where we have relaxed and not rushed around doing things so it was a nice change! Last weekend we spent snorkelling on the saturday and then did an overnight fishing trip, one of the boys we went with caught a 20kg cod so the seven of us got a few meals out of that, including a fish curry which will cooked. we moved into Kiwi house last tuesday, its a bit of a dump but only 150 dollars (10 pounds) each for a two week stay, rather than 150 dollars each a night, which was what we were paying at the other place, Zome. We have saved more money than we thought we would, mainly because most places seem to love Medical Students and put discounts on everything (Will is now an honorary medical student too). We are still eating out most nights, although we have attempted a spaghetti bolognese, mainly eating at Chinese and Korean restaurants where the food is cheap and delicious. We will be leaving Honiara on sunday 9th by boat, it takes 10 hours but stops at 5 different islands so will be more interesting than flying. We are going with the 7 Leeds medical students so we will be having a celebration on monday for Will's birthday, probably at Fatboys. Cannot wait to get there, sandy beaches ahoy!
