We have spent the last week in Munda, which is an island in the Western Province about 1 1/2 hours by boat from Gizo. Spent the week living in a hovel as the nice accomodation was full, we paid 4.90 a night for the both of us but it was only worth that - if you have seen the horror film Saw, thats what our bathroom looked like! Consequently we did not have a shower for the whole 5 days we were there (the only option was a bucket anyway) and kept ourselves clean by swimming in the sea lots. The rest of Munda was beautiful, even more so than Gizo, and we spent the first day walking up to the hospital on one side and to the World War Two wrecks in the other direction. In the Solomons they call WW2 'big fella fight' and the wrecks are 'American dumpings'. I am so pleased I didn't come here for my elective (I got offered a place) as the students here have to be at the hospital at 7.30 for a compulsory church service (it is a missionary hospital), and the hospital is 30 mins away which they have to walk in the blistering heat. Also Will would be bored stiff as there isn't very much to do here. We also went to see some caged crocodiles which were massive, and spent a lot of time sat by the sea. The next day we went to Lola Island, and from there they took us to the Skull shrine, which was a bit spooky, and I was sure not to touch the skulls! We were glad to leave Munda as the place is dominated by a white man who tries to squeeze every penny he can out of you. We are both fed up of white people in the Solomons, they are the only things that spoil it and take your attention away from the true beauty of the people and the place. One night we went to a local called Donald's house, he has sky tv and invites everyone to come and watch sport with him for 70p an evening, we watched chelsea-fulham. It was funny to watch it with Solomons people as they don't really understand what the commentators are saying as the english is too fast for them, they just make their own comments! The flight back to Honiara was brilliant, was great to see a large population again and re-visit some of our favourite places. I have bought a big tribal mask which I so far have successfully got back into Brisbane, heres hoping it manages the rest of our journey! We're delighted to be back in Australia, especially since we won the rugby, so far only one aussie has mentioned it funnily enough. We are currently staying with Sam, Will's cousin, we haven't decided how long we will stay here, just seeing how things take us. We are both well, Will did not rekindle his romance with the bed-bugs on our return to Kiwi house, although both my ankles are still infected I think they will be ok now they are not constanly wet and dirty. Hoping everyone at home is well, we are looking forward to seeing you lots!! xxxxxxxxx
