Well I have officially finished my elective! I got signed off this morning, and did my final ward round. Will is pleased that I have given some of my medical things away, making my bags a bit lighter now! I will also be leaving a lot of clothes behind as they are so dirty and smelly I don't think that they will ever recover. We have been on our own in Gizo since last weekend, as all the other medical students have left for other travels. I have enjoyed my last week as I have been much more involved, got to drain about 400ml of pus from a lady's buttock which is the highlight of my medical training to date! I have also had the pleasure of seeing some classic Solomons injuries, including a person attacked by a croc and someone with concussion after a coconut fell out of a tree onto their head! I have been out to another clinic, saw a pod of dolphins which was excellent. Will is finishing today as well, we are celebrating by having a massage this afternoon (2 pound 80 for 30 minutes = bargain) and going out tonight. I think Will's computer pupils will be devastated to see him go, he has taught them so much and they are really grateful for his work (I think they have bought him presents). We went to the traditional night at the hotel last night, one of Will's pupils, Florence was singing and she asked him to dance to the music with him (this involves a lot of jiggling up and down) which was really funny to watch. We have had quite a quiet week on the trip front, we have both been quite tired and we are running out of things to do, so saving our money for Australia! We are going back to Fatboys on sunday, then are planning to do a few trips when we get to Munda, including visiting another waterfall and a skull shrine (from those good old cannibal days). I am going to be very careful not to disturb the shrine, as there is currently a crazy man in the hospital who the family say was fine until he tried to steal some shell money from one of the shrines, now is a complete fruit loop. We will be returning to Honiara by plane on friday next week, then leaving on the sunday, so will be getting into Brisbane sunday evening. Am starting to miss the comforts of home, have had chocolate 3 times in our whole trip (Fruit and Nut) and have not had any cheese at all! Anyway best go, am off to celebrate my freedom! x
