The Great Barrier Reef
We sailed to a spot on the Great Barrier Reef this morning called Bait Reef, where we moored for the rest of the day. After some sunbathing on deck (when the captain told us we couldn't wear sun cream because it damages the reef!) we went out on the tender in our snorkeling gear, and dived in off the side of the boat. The water was really choppy, and we couldn't see any land, so we were literally in the middle of the sea which was quite scary! The snorkeling was good though - it was strange that you could be over the coral in shallow water and then it would drop off and become really deep. We saw nemo fish in the anemone, and Mari Ross fish that were about two feet long and can change from female to male. We had rolls and salad for lunch when we got back on the boat, and then sunbathed for the rest of the afternoon.
I was glad to have my last shower onboard today, as we are limited to a minute's worth of water! Some people did a night dive tonight, and we sat and watched them go off into the water with glow sticks on their tanks, and then sat on the bow of the boat with our pillows and blankets looking at the stars and chatting. There was hundreds of stars, and I saw a couple of shooting stars too - I wish I could have captured it on camera.
