Spent the last morning in Bruges buying chocolate and just walking through the streets doing a bit of window shopping. Got a bit lost on my way back to the hostel, but luckily bumped into some friends who are on busabout too.
Left Bruges this afternoon at 1pm to go to Amsterdam. I LOVE Amsterdam! Not because of the reasons you may think, but because the weather and hostel are both really really good haha. After the crap hostel in Bruges this one is like a 5 star hotel.
At night went to Leidseplein which is where the nightlife happens here. Tonight the Dutch played the Italians in the Eurocup so we went to a bar to watch the game. They LOVE their soccer/football here. Everything is orange, so we got into the spirit and pulled out our 'cool' orange Busabout lanyard and tied it on our wrists. There is also this t-shirt with a lion on it. There is a flap on the lion and when you lift up the flap the lion looks like it roaring... (The lion is like their mascot here). Contemplating whether or not to buy it as a piece of useless souvenier . The Dutch won 3-0 so everyone here was pretty happy.
There are bicycles everywhere! And they come from each direction (well it seems that way). To cross the roads, you have to first look for bikes in the bike lane, then the cars, then the trams. Then you have to do it again to cross the other side, trams, cars, bikes. These bikes and trams go at super speeds.
There are alot of house boats along the Amstel river as well and they look pretty cool. I don't think I can stay 5 days all in Amsterdam though, might take a day trip out to other towns.
Tomorrow plan to go to the Van Gogh museum and Rijksmuseum where alot of the art from the 'Golden Era' are located. eg. Rembrandt and Johannes Vermeer (guy who painted Girl with a Pearl Earring). In the afternoon will be going on a bike tour around the city and out into the country to see a cheese and clog factory. Haven't ridden a bike in probably 10 years hopefully I don't fall. I'm pretty good on the gym bike though...! Maybe they have those and they can bring Amsterdam to me.
