Well g'day from down under again. Again we have packed in so much since our last blog that we don't know where to start, so here goes.
After a relaxing time sailing we headed off to Hervey Bay which is lots and lots of kilometers away from Airlie beach so we had an overnight stop on a cattle station called Kroombit. During the days travel on the bus we went and played lawn bowls which was great fun. Although we kept interupting the old men's tournement with the bowls going everywhere. The old men and women of the bowls club were so cute and even gave us a bit of coaching. As it was a long drive we stopped for a picinic lunch and played games on the bus for Extreme points!! These were things like guess which butt was a man or womans..harder than it sounds and if the boobies were fake or real!
We arrived at the cattlestation just in time for dinner. By this point we had been on the bus so long with others that we had made friends. After dinner we had a little go at whip cracking which is pretty hard. We looked real good in our safety googles too. As always the girls were better than the guys and i managed to crack it as did sarah, she even had a whip cracking dual with the owner...i swear she is a cowgirl waiting to get out. After this came the fun of riding a mechanical bull..this was great fun and i bet Sarah by staying on for 20 secs to her 14 secs..but we didn't win over all..but again the girls were better than the guys.
Before bed we played some group games which ended in rather a rough game of musical chairs where i came second! We were woken early in the morning by loads and loads of birds (cockatoos) which i really loved!!! After brekkie we headed out on horse back to do goat mustering. THis was great fun and was just like a scene from Mcloeds daughters!! I had a horse that was a right b**** and hated everything that came near her which was great fun when i was near the goats. Again Sarah was a natural at it especially shouting the commands as you can imagine!!
Next came the lassoing (dont know how to spell it), but this was really hard and i couldn't catch a goat in the rodeo but sarah again did..im telling you her talents are wasted as a donor carer!
We then left for Hervey bay where we were departing for Fraser island. We found out we had a good group the night before and had one of the guys (Matt) from our bus with us. In our group there was 9 of us and 5 were from essex, how random is that. The other 4 were english too.
After our brief on the island we set off in our van (home for 3 days), to get all our camping essentials. THis is where i realised that i had left the camera battery in my bag back at the hostel and had no time to go back. We had to rely on a disposable camera and nicking peoples photos from facebook. I was so annoyed but never mind!
Then we had athe fun of shopping for the group for 3 days worth of food..homebrand stuff all the way. We ended up paying about 3 pounds a day on food which was great we ate like kings. We then got the ferry across to the island and this is where the adventures began.
While the lads sorted the tyre pressures for off roading us girls went for our last decent cup of tea. Luke drove first and the entrance roads (if you call them that) were a nightmare all up hill and bumpy on sand..the clutch got nearly burnt out and we were doing some extreme tea drinking in the back of the van. The tracks are so bumpy and a bit scary but great fun. First stop was lake Mckensie which is soo beautiful with it swhite sands and clear blue freash water. We saw our first couplew of dingos here too, one was even nicking stuff from on top of a truck. After this we went for a walk through the rainforest before headeding off down the beach to find a campsite. The campsite we got was sweet and not even on sand which was even better. By 4.30pm we had the tents up and was cooking the barbie..oh yeah and cracked open the goon. So as you can imagine our first night on Fraser island was a little mad but great fun..we still managed to appreciate the stars too. There were a few sore heads the next day and it was a busy one too.
Have to continue next time as running out of time.
