Continuing our travels on Fraser island, it was day 2 and all feeling a bit delicate. Sarah was very brave and decided to have a go at driving along the beach. She drove for about 10 mins before swapping with one of the lads for the inland driving. Then it was my turn to drive, was pretty scared as the car was top heavy and didn;t wanna topple it over...for one it would have hurt and secondly we had a $1000 bond on the car that we all didn't want to lose! Really cool driving along the beach but pretty scary as the car just goes along the tracks already made in the sand without even properly steering.
On this day we took in the sights of eli creek (blooming freezing), and Maheno ship wreck and the pinnicles which was loads of coloured sand. Then stopped of at Indian Head lookout where you could see for miles and we even saw Turtle and Mantarays in the sea. Then travelled al;ong the worst bit of track on the island to Lake Allom to see turtles, this track was so scary and very bumpy but we made it there and back in one piece. It was getting dark and we went and found yet another great camp site and again it wasn't on sand which is a bonus when camping.
We were all looking forward to Spag Bol for dinner but when we opended the esky we had had a massive meat explosion and mince had gone everywhere, so we had vegaterian version instead. Had a pretty early night as we over did it the previous night. It started to rain and 3 of the guys had to sleep in the van as their tent flooded in the night!
Did alot of driving on the last day-well the lads did, first went to Champagne falls for a bit of a swim. The rocks were really sharp and sarah was the only girl who went in and all the lads did. They got a bit cut up on the rocks and Nurse sarah was to the rescue again. Next we went for a long drive back down south to Lake Wabby. This was amazing with massive sand dunes and a lake for swimming. We hadn't left much time for this and had to walk pretty quick to the lake. Getting there was fine it was the walk back up the hills that was the killer..especially when you have a cold and cant breath very well!!
We had done really well and only had splashes of salt water on the car (not allowed to get salt water on the car), then on way back to ferry we nearly had an accident with this stupid other car who was going way to fast, then the handbrake stopped working and finally on the ferry back the wing mirror snapped off. We thought we would loose our bond but the guy was cool and we didnt have to pay anything. Got back to the hostel and we all crashed really early as we were so knackered and all leaving the next day.
Hung around in Hervey bay (not that nice of a place) for the bus to Rainbow beach. We had 2 nights here and on first night we met up with Jane and Sophie from our boat trip and arranged to go out in Noosa with them. Spent the day goingto see the Sandblow and coloured sands, hence the name rainbow beach...but to be honest there wasn't much colour change in the sands. The beach was cool and was the first time we went in the sea with surf. The waves were really powerful and qlot of fun. HAd a nice relaxing day on the beach then headed back to get changed for dinner.
Was gonna have the $5 dollor dinner at hostel but when they bought it out it was help yourself and it was not gonna be fun fighting to it...like pigs at the troughs!!! Went next door to the other hostelk for a cheap dinner and bumped into friends Orla and Ruth who we travlled to Noosa with the next day.
Arrived in Noosa, which we loved although our hostel was a bit far away from the town, and arranged to get the free bus to Steve Irwins zoo with ruth and orla the next day.
Now the Australia Zoo was pretty wicked although it is so hyped up you do expect more. Had a really fun day walking round feeding the elephants and Kangaroos. Watched the main show in the Crocaseum which was fun. Found the Koalas and this was the first time we had seen any in Oz and got to stoke it. Then we had to walk through an Avery ( i did not like this), although it wasn't too bad not much was flying around. Had a bit of lunch and was heading to the tiger show, which we missed as the tram wasn't fast enough to get us there in time. Neer mind although it was ment to be very good.
Had a mad rush to meet up with friends to go out in Noosa that night, had a fun night out although it is pretty expensive in Noosa and there is only one club to go to that is open late. Was a fun night though.
From Noosa we then caught the Bus to Brisbane, where we met back up with Lydia and a few other people. Brisbane is a cool city and had a bit of a walk around in the aftrnoon to get a feel for the place. Met up with Lydia and othr friends in the evning at the downunder bar. Turned out we ended up in the same room as Ruth and Orla which was really random but cool. Had a bit of a mad night out especially with all the free drink that was going around. They had a downing comp and my team won the $100 dollor bar tab which helped the night along. Was a great night out though and we had to be up early to catch the bus to the Koala sanctuary in the morning.
We met Lydia and caught the bus to Lone pine koala sanctuary. They have over 140 koalas and we had our picture taken holding one. They are soooo cute but a bit smelly, and very strong too. Had to avoid it pooing on me when he was passed over to me which was a bit gross. THe baby koalas are adorable and we have taken many pics of them, sarah wanted to sneak one in her rucksack!
We then went to feed the Kangaroos, i had a bit of a problem as there were loads of pigeons and scrub turkeys around and had to run away back out of the enclosure, Sarah and Lydia got some good photos though especially of the baby ones. We then saw a sheep dog show (bit random) and the bird of prey show which was cool and Sarah got to fly the Barn owl. Sarah and Lydia then feed the wild parrakeets while i gave it a big miss before leaving to go back to the city.
Had a quiet night and went to the cinema with the girls to see Bee movie, then went to catch up on our sleep. Just chilled out in the city and walked to the lagoon and through the botanical gardens on our last day in Brisbane and looked around the shops a bit. We were really sad and cos had cheap movie ticket thing went to cinema again as we didn't fancy drinking.
Off to Surfers paradise next to do the theme parks which we are both looking forward too. See you there x
