In spite of not getting back til the early hours of Saturday morning we were up early to watch cousin Tom play a football match in the under 11's league. We were met at the ground by an old school friend of Dads and after the match went round to their house for the day. They have 3 kids 10 and under and the children amused themselves playing in a chicken run, pretending to be chickens and selling eggs.
The next day Dad played tennis with uncle Tim and avenged his earlier defeat. Later all the London clan met for lunch at a pub and for once the weather was super and we had a lovely afternoon walking along the Thames.
Monday was a rest day with an opportunity for some shopping and to sort out the fall out from our Paris trip. In the afternoon friends of Mum and Dad from Africa, Darren and Tony came to visit and they left the kids with Nana in the evening while they all went for a curry.
The next day was the big day out in London. We all headed off with Nana to the South Bank. First stop was the water fountain that Mia had enjoyed when she visited with Nana. The fountain was a large square with four smaller squares. The walls of water rose and fell so if you timed it right you could walk through the fountain and stand in the middle without getting wet. The girls had a great time but couldn't resist running through the walls and were soaked by the end. After a change of clothes it was off to the Giraffe restaurant for lunch then on to the London Eye. The kids enjoyed this although the only place they recognised was Buckingham Palace. After the Eye we caught a bus to Trafalgar Square and walked up the Mall to Buckingham Palace. We visited the Royal Mews where all the Queens horses and coaches are kept. They were very impressive. By the time we got home we were all exhausted.
Our last full day was Dads birthday so he and Mum got to spend the morning together in Richmond. By the time they got back there was only enough time to go to the park and feed the ducks before Mum and Dad were off again to see a show in the West End.
And that is pretty much it. We are off this afternoon and looking forward to seeing all our friends again in NZ. Thanks to everyone for all their messages. We have had a wonderful time and a big thank you to all our friends and family over here who have done so much to make our stay so enjoyable.
