Today is our last day in India and we have had a fantastic time. India has not been anything like we expected, in fact it is much cleaner than we thought it would be and very green. I think we have enjoyed so much because there are very few tourists and the country still has its own traditions and values which have not changed to accommodate visitors. My only criticism is that they like mopping floors and wet tiled floors are very dangerous (I have had quite a few near slips). Our only other observation is that most people live their lives beside the very busy roads! They build their makeshift houses beside roads (even motorways) and use the central reservation as makeshift clothes lines!! They eat beside the road, bathe beside the road and even sleep beside the road (actually when I say beside I mean on as there are no defining lines between what is road and what is not!!)
Now some facts about India:
Nick has eaten curry morning, noon and night!!
Nick has given away £200 (at least) to beggars and anyone else who looked like they needed some money!!
There are 16 million people in Delhi (most of them seem to be on the roads whenever we leave our hotel!!)
A McDonalds meal is £1.20.
We have been frisked at least four times a day everyday by soldiers and Nick seems to have liked it a bit too much!
We have travelled:
950 miles by aeroplane
20 miles by Tuk Tuk
190 miles by Taxi
½ mile by Elephant
50 miles by Moped (and yes Nick it was a Moped not a Harley) and
40 miles by Metro.
