Today we managed to sneak out of the hostel so we could travel around Delhi by ourselves as they do not like you doing anything independently they think you need a driver everywhere you go. Managed to find the Metro and got a day pass for next to nothing and it was great. First stop was the Red Fort got off the metro and found we were the only tourists as far as the eye could see (which isn't very far actually due to the smog!!) Had about a 1/4 mile walk to the Fort which was a bit nerve wracking but made it in one piece. There were still a distinct lack of tourists in the Fort so we became a bit of a tourist attraction in ourselves especially me. Nick reckons they must have all been following the Rugby World Cup and had seen me on TV so therefore thought I was famous!!Or maybe it is my likeness to Catherine Zeta Jones. I was followed around most of the morning by people video filming me and I also made the mistake of having a sit down and was immediately swamped by people. At one point I was even handed a baby for a photo (Nick thought it was hilarious). After our visit to the fort we headed for a market where the Indians shop which was fab as there again were no tourists and we were not bothered by anyone. Bought some really cheap stuff including lots of sweets for the kids who live in the street of our hotel. Started handing out sweets after checking there were no parents in case we had a row for giving their kids sweets. We need not have worried though because within 10 seconds we had the mothers and the kids chasing us down the street asking for sweets!! Note to self: Need to buy more sweets!!
