'Hi you guys! How are you going?' as they say over here.
We're having a wonderful, wonderful Silver Wedding Anniversary, and are very grateful for all the cards and good wishes, which have travelled with us.
We were blessed with a visit to Mount Taranaki in all its snowy glory yesterday. Then we went around the beautiful Hollard's Garden which our very friendly motel proprietor had recommended. There were many colourful rhododendrons and azaleas, and a surprisingly attractive swamp garden. When we left the garden the amazing mountain, which is surrounded by completely flat plains for miles around, had disappeared into cloud.
We travelled on to Wellington and checked into the Museum Hotel, where we were to spend our anniversary. I was struck by the Venician masks on the wall in the lobby, because we spent our honeymoon in Venice 25 years ago. However, even more extraordinary. We turned on the TV and the episode of 'Lovejoy' filmed in Venice was on UKTV. On our honeymoon we flew out with the BBC film crew that was about to make that episode. Weird or what?!!
We spent the morning in 'Te Papa', the Museum of New Zealand. It covers the area of 3 football pitches, so we didn't quite manage to see everything! This afternoon we went on the cable car up to the Botanic Gardens, and strolled down to the Parliament buildings. We visited the new and old Anglican cathedrals. The friendly Dean said hello to us in the new one, and the welcomer in the old one was very helpful too. Everyone is friendly and helpful here, without exception.
Off for a slap up meal soon! Will add more stunning pics in a day or two. (I'm not on our own computer at the moment.)
Early ferry across the Cook Strait tomorrow.
