We arrived to our accommodation late in the afternoon and were instantly very impressed. As we were driving along the road we all agreed that it would be pretty sweet to be staying in that place on the hill, and low and behold the GPS had us turning up the road to it. We are staying at Casale Dello Sparviero which is a castle on a hill, surrounded by grape vines. Very nice! We checked in and set up our entree on the front lawn with a nice bottle of chilled white wine. The place is self service which is great as Van and I were ready for some basic meals after all of the eating out.
The next day we had a lazy start and slowly made our way to Castello Di Verrazzano for a eating and drinking experience. It started with a tour and some history of the place which has officially been making wine for 843 years and unofficially for 2600 years. One family member was the first to discovered New York City and other areas of the US east coast and the Maori battalion also had a base there during WW2. The lunch and wine tasting lasted over two hours and was fantastic! We headed home to recover before some wine and nibbles on the lawn again.
The next day we had a slow start before checking out and made our way to San Gimignano for a wee explore and a gelato from the worlds best gelato shop (apparently) and then it was on to Florence.
