After a night in Nebraska we headed back in to Kansas. We stayed off the Interstate Highways today and found ourselves in some VERY SMALL towns.
The road had a speed limit of 55 mph for most of the way but we rarely stuck to it. We have decided that we love cruise control!
Some of the towns we passed claimed to be cities - the sign at the edge of town stated that it was the city limit - we didn't see a city until we got to our destination! We did see towns that had a few houses - most of them didn't even have a service station and there were certainly no McDonalds to stop at to use the WiFi.
We drove through Oberlin, Reager, Norton (not a motorbike in sight), and stopped at Phillipsburg for morning tea at a Sonic - burger joint. Then it was on to Waldo, Lucas and Wilson where we saw a lake.
Seeing a sign to the Kansas Motorcycle Museum we turned off at Lincoln but could not find it despite backtracking to make sure we had seen the sign. This small detour helped us to avoid the Interstate freeways and we continued along country roads, stopping only for a train to cross in front of us.
The roads today also seemed to go on forever - this country has huge areas of open space! The difference today however was that we went up and down a few hills and there were even some curves to navigate. The weather was also dry.
We went to an Applebees for dinner as we have discovered that they have a varied menu with real baked potato and green beans. The day was topped off by a beautiful sunset as we got back to our hotel.
As yet, we haven't seen the Lineman - perhaps he will turn up tomorrow as we drive through the city of Wichita for a better look.
