We had no success finding The Lineman so we decided to leave Wichita behind. Today was a travelling day so we stayed on the freeways. It was raining on and off so we made only two stops for the day. Our route would take us almost in a straight line south on I-35 to Dallas.
Before we had morning tea we had crossed the border into Oklahoma just north of Braman. The rain continued. Traffic on the freeway was heavy and the spray from the Big Rigs made it difficult to see at times. We would pass a truck and then it would overtake us again. There were far more trucks on the road than cars.
Another highlight of the day was the numerous billboards that we passed. They advertised everything from religion to petrol to a zoo and places to eat and sleep. You would never be short of somewhere to stay if you decided that you had enough travelling for the day.
We drove around Oaklahoma City as we had done our visiting there in 2009. We continued south on I-35 until we hit the Texas border. We stopped there at the tourist information centre. We took a few photos and spent some time reading the walls of the World War 2 memorial. We gathered more brochures than we will ever need for our destination and drove on.
As we went further south the temperature started to rise and the rain finally stopped. It was 10 degrees Celsius when we left Wichita this morning and it was 33 degrees celsius when we arrived in Addison, the suburb of Dallas where we will spend the next three nights - needless to say we were a trifle overdressed.
After checking in to our hotel we sat down and planned what we would do for the next couple of days. Our hotel room is huge with a separate lounge area (complete with TV) as well as a large bedroom (also with a TV) and a large bathroom and kitchen area. We have a beautiful indoor pool that we will no doubt try as well as a guest laundry which we will need. Greg has settled in - it may be hard to get him out of here!
