It doesn't say any where not to give the elephants Kronenbourg 1664...;P WOW, it has been an exciting couple of days here in Copenhagen. On Friday night went out after class to have a couple of beers and some food at a social for the summer architecture and design students at DIS. I had my first Copenhagen hot dog from one of the hot dog kiosks/cart....can you say AWESOME!!!!!! So Jenn and I end up sitting outside because there are no seats inside and we are enjoying our beers and the cool weather when out of my eye I see a very intoxicated man veering right towards us. I am groaning inward and saying oh sh%t please don't come over here, but I am a magnet for the interesting people of society, so of course he beelines straight over to us...oh boy. So he starts talking to Jenn in Danish and she is telling him she doesn't speak Danish by shaking her head, he tries again, she tells him again uh-uh. So he is trying really hard to concentrate and then asks her if she speaks french, in french, to which she almost says oui, but catches herself. He finally asks if we speak english and now the conversation starts to get interesting. The poor guy is extremely drunk, looks like he has been in a fight recently, probably hasn't had a bath in awhile and is telling us he looks like Rocky Balboa and pulling up his sleeves and showing us where he has tried to cut himself. If he would have asked for food, I would have bought him a hotdog or something but he wanted spare kroners and I did not want to contribute to the alcohol problem he obviously has. Well, he gets upset with us and has told us he is gypsy and points his finger at Jenn and tells her she will never have children and then points at me and tells me I will never have children either and then tells us we should be afraid. What is the really interesting part of this story is that the day before on our fieldtrip I had asked Jenn if she thought there were gypsies in Denmark and the next day I meet my first official gypsy and he curses us.......go figure..lol... of course I had visions of Stephen Kings "Thinner" running through my head. AND I have to admit when I got home later that night I did google how to rid myself of a gypsy curse:) THIS is another one of those Uniquely Ursula Moments.
Saturday we had a huge storm in Copenhagen, the biggest one they have had in a really, really long time. It dropped over 6 inches of rain Saturday and the flooding here was phenomenal. I posted a youtibe video someone made on Facebook and you should really check it out because I honestly can't convey or describe how big this storm was and the damage it caused. Needless to say I am still without the internet, as the company has some of their equipment still submerged under water, so luckily I have found someone's internet to piggyback off of until mine comes back online.
Classes are going well. Thursday I present my 3 concepts for chair designs to the professors and Friday we leave for our long study tour to Stockholm, Sweden and Helsinki, Finland plus other areas right around those two capitols and THE Ikea Headquarters where we will get to meet some of the designers. One of our professors has been a designer there for about 5 years.
Well, I think I am going to sign off for now. I have an early morning and another fieldtrip tomorrow.
Have a wonderful 4th of July, Peace Off and god aften:):):)
