So from Wadi rum we jumped in the car to head to Al Karak.....it's a Crusader Fortress. A couple of hours drive north towards Amman. So off we went. More desert....camels and zipped in and out of towns and villages.
Neat to see the real villages....very different. After a while we turned left and headed back uphill from the desert floor into the mountains. This is where the weather really turned on us. Snow...sleet and rain...kinda miserable. But we persevered and we kept climbing....hit a detour....saw some more towns.
Then Karak popped up around a bend. Cool looking fortress way up in the clouds. We parked it and headed in. Our driver ate lunch and we settled for tea. Then the skies opened up for a while and when it seemed that the rain stopped we decided to try to tour the fortress. Off we went....holy crap it was cold. The wind at the top of a mountain at the end of a valley in the Jordanian winter.....is really cold. Really felt sorry for anyone who had to pull guard duty when the fort was active.
So we ran around the fortress for a bit but after a while it was tooooooo freakin cold....so that was it we packed it in. Some neat views.....and very historic.
Time to head to the dead sea........
