Today not much planned on our first full day as it is a day to sit around the hotel.....tuff job that is...lazy wake up and we chilled round our pool after breakfast.....then off to the beach. It's an awesome beach, view great....sun great....service great....what else can you say....cept too many lil kiddies running around with sand buckets. The folks do think its cute when they want to dump it on your head though.....heh heh those crazy parents. Still haven't seen a Canadian in the crowd. One american couple keeps popping up around us, and they seem nice to chat with. Laying round the beach getting catered too is pretty sweet....Shauna needs some tips on this for when she gets home. I hope she was paying attention.
So the plan was to go to our room now and then go to Sharm city for supper and to look around at the shops and stuff.....right about here things went south fast. I am now officially healthy....yay for me....guess who get sick now? Yup Shauna got nailed. Shauna has a sore throat now...oh ohhhhh. She has a bit of a fever too so she sends me to get some antihistamine. No problem right.....I call our gal.....she comes with the wheels and off I go on the one day of the year that Egypt is playing a football match (soccer for al ya tards out there) of football matches...for the African championship.....now if you thought they were pretty serious about hockey in Edmonton, HAH!!!!!! It doesn't hold a candle to the craziness here for football.
Its kind of like Brazil....make a mistake on the team they kill the offender and the whole family and thier family....So Mohamed the driver....has the game cranked on the radio not really paying much attention to the driving.....almost got nailed once....oops. The driving here is weird at best not as much traffic but still weird. So driving around the empty streets....except for the vehicles trying to hit us....cause they also seem to be as focused on the game as my driver is. Ohh.....not much fun listening to a game in Arabic......I never knew when to cheer....when I did it seemed it was when the other side did something not good so he started looking at me with some suspicion. Need some help from the big guy if he thinks that I am cheering for the enemy.
Nothing in Sharm is close so we got a bit of a drive.....finally we get to a pharmacy....unfortunately I still can't read Arabic. Pity would have been handy here....no Dristan or anything I recognized....the dude behind the counter was guess.......watching the football game....so nada on da help.
Off we go to a bigger pharmacy.....not close.....long drive....again with the traffic thing saw an accident bus and Mercedes.....not us yay but the bus did win. We get there and the nice guy (after I broke him away from the game) lets me look in the secret drawer...heh heh....it full of stuff in English.....I recognize a few names....but to be honest I have no clue what has antihistamine in it....so I get one of anything with a name I know on it.....and off we go back to the hotel.
Get there and Shauna has been hit hard by whatever it is. She was throwing up and had a fever and all that stuff. But she is a little trooper she don't need no help or anything except pills for a shore throat. Long story short....I listened to the denial for a while....then after her last bought with mister porcelain tuba I called the front desk to see if they had a doctor in the house (its about 12:30 at night).
Holy crap again....did they ever have a doc....they fired me over to him on the phone, he was on another case but would get to us at the soonest.....HOUSE CALLS!!!!!!!! Can you believe it????? After a while the buzzer rang and the Doc and his nurse (nice chap, there is a story as to why it's a guy.....quite funny) came in.
Some Egyptian Adonis of a dude walks in, I lead the doc to the patient......it was funny to watch Shauna swoon between muscle spasms and waves of nausea....ha hah.......... He took it very seriously...the illness not the swooning...oh he is single for all you gals looking at traveling. He figured a nasty bout of Travellers illness. So he hooked Shauna up to an iv and pumped her full of drugs. During this she was also trying to hook up Michelle for a date. So she says.......either way he left after taking care of her and have to say he had an awesome bedside manner. The nurse had to wait for the iv to finish so we didn't wrap this up till about 5am. Translation we ain't going anywhere tomorrow....no Mount Sinai for us....sniff sniff.........but Shauna definitely felt better.
So when we woke up next day.....Shauna was still pretty whacked but feeling good and the doc was planning to come back for another iv. That might be why she was still a lil bit under the weather...that is probably the only thing Shauna was grinning about all day I think.....so I wondered about for a bit whilst she slept and chilled by the beach for a lil and that was about it.......
So Shauna got her second iv and she felt a lot better but it took a lot to get the iv in, took about 7 pokes...the doc left for a while after poke #6 to have a coffee....he felt bad also....they came back and nailed it....good coffee here. He was very proud of himself. Then it was chill time...and nappy time.
We got a great night sleep and Shauna felt great the next day. She was hungry but a bit cautious as she hadn't really eaten now for about a day and a half...but no probs so far.
So off to the beach we went....to get in our last few hours in before we flew to Jordan.
The beach was great....but we had to go sniff......another adventure......thought we had one more day there but got screwed up by the dates....to be honest I haven't a clue what day of the week it is....tough to leave a place this nice.
We got picked up and escorted as usual and plunk we is on a jet sipping coffee watching the seserts of Jordan go by. Did not see one lick of grass out that window.
The trip to Jordan was totally easy....not much to say.... the crew picked us up and took us to the airport.....and off we went.....our driver is taking us to Wadi Musa (Petra), its about a 2.5 hour drive south of Amman. Cool part is I am writing this as we drive thru the desert to Petra. It's like a moonscape out there....and we are climbing to about 2500 feet. Type a bit look up, type a bit look up, dude on Arabian horse goes smoking by the other direction into the desert, look down type a bit...pause...type a bit more....yeah that happens all the time back home....
Hmmmmmm, just saw a 'Yield to Camels" sign.....we ain't in Alberta no more.........
Ohh we is touring Petra tomorrow.....
