We spend 5 nights in Chiang Mai. Morgan falls victim to food poisoning and I save his life. Despite this we manage to drag ourselves along to the local tourist's watering hole most evenings where we meet two girls from Canada who are lots of fun. On Chinese New Year, we meet Mike in an affluent area, west of the city where his Thai friends take us out to a local bar and club. The club is very modern and chic but strange as no one is dancing, just huddling around personal mini bars in groups. We break out a few crazy dance moves and in true western style, show the Thai's how to look stupid while having fun! In the bathroom I feel as though I could easily be in any club in Glasgow, everyone is dolled up to the nines and preening themselves. Aesthetics seem to be very important to the Thai people. Hilariously, the guys are even worse than the girls. I make the most of our last day in Chiang Mai by getting up early to go see an interesting documentary photography exhibition at the Chiang Mai University Arts Centre, and in the afernoon we all attend a Thai cooking class with the sweetest Thai girl I've met yet, which is saying a lot. She set up a classroom in her house, owns a tiny puppy, is well travelled and one day dreams of seeing Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. We try to take her with us.
