After arriving on Saturday night I was b*****ed and didn't feel like doing much except eating and going to sleep. At the airport I was greeted by my chauffeur to take me to Tiger Muay Thai, when I got in the taxi he said 'you pay now' and charged me 1700 baht for the journey to Chalong which is about a 45 minute journey from Phuket airport. I was sure Tiger had told me to expect to pay 800 baht but I gave him the money anyway, when we arrived at Tiger I told him how much I was supposed to pay and he had a look on his face like he was busted in the end I made him give me back 800 baht and we called it square. After that I went to check into Tiger and was informed that they didn't have a room for me even though I had booked 2 months previous, anyway I got a room at a nice place called nature house about 300m down the road it is really nice I have my own large room with toilet and shower double bed tv fridge and aircon. There are 6 rooms of this type in the complex I am staying and all the other guests are training as well. I think there is 2 Aussies a pommy an Irishman a Spaniard and I haven't met the other guy yet. There all pretty cool and they invited me to the night markets on Saturday night but I was way to tired instead I just ate drank a beer and watched a movie did some net surfing then crashed. Next morning I tried to wake up at 7am after 9 hours sleep but when I stood up the body was still in a coma so I went back to sleep for another 3 hours. When I got and got ready for the day I planned on doing some shopping for basic supplies water snacks etc so I just walked down the road knowing some taxi or Tuk Tuk would come by, after about 10 seconds a scooter pulls over and asks where I'm going I tell him I want to go to shopping centre and I jump on the back. Man that was an experience being on the back with no helmet in crazy Thai traffic where it's organized chaos it was about 10 minutes to the mall which was very modern it was like Coles and kmart in one. Any way got my supplies and caught a taxi back to my room. When I got back I hired a scooter and went out touring not knowing where I was going just exploring I came across a shooting range where it cost me about $30 to shoot a real glock 9mm 10 times I wasn't a very good shot but I could see myself improving with practice, it's the recoil I need to adjust too. Then I paid $40 to shoot a pump action 12 gauge shotgun ten times, that was fun and I hit most targets which fall over when you hit them, the guy who was my shooting guide asked why I was here in Thailand and I told him I was training at Tiger MMA, man he looked at me like inwas a celebrity and asked if unwanted to go to some fights with him on Friday night I got his number and his name was Tom. After that I went to the snake show where they play with cobras and make them strike at the handler who moves out of the way before getting bit, that was cool watching but then the announcer says hey Kiwi you get in there, I thought he was joking but he wasn't so I did and I had to get on my hands and knees and tease the snake to make it strike I was like oh s*** when they put the snake within striking distance so I touched it's tail and it struck at me but I moved my head back before it hit, damn that was a rush then they made me do it again so I did after that I had enough and got out, luckily the snake used wasn't a cobra but a mangrove snake that will only make you sick. After that rush I rode my scooter over the mountain to Kata beach where I got 3 pairs of muay Thai shorts for 1000 baht about $30. Then I went to karon beach and got a hour massage for 300 baht, feeling good I decided to head back to the nature house to get ready for the night markets in chalong, those markets were awesome everything is so cheap I ate some crickets and grubs they were nice I didnt buy much other stuff just some clothes for training and a couple of seasons of man vs wild. 2 hours later I'm back at my room watching a movie and then off too sleep.
Today is Monday training day I arrive by 7:40am for an 8am fitness class and sought out paperwork at Tiger well the paperwork took about an hour so i missed out on fitness class so at 9 am I do MMA with the instructor being BJJ blackbelt Ray Elbe. This is what I have been waiting for the class was awesome he showed us some drills I've never seen before and then we did some technique, he would demonstrate then we would practice with our partner. We started with breaking grips from our guard then that progressed to pushing your opponents face when from your guard when he is trying to come at you, that progressed to reversing him and getting a neck choke/ crank. Then we did cardio for 30minutes then rolled for 30min. I met some good guys while training Loli from sweeten who's married to an Aussie and lives in Singapore as a personal trainer and teacher at an international college, he had his daughter with him as he is here on holiday with the family but can't stand the thought of just lazing on the beach everyday. I met Rowe a pakeha from Dunedin, Richard an Aussie from Melbourne and another really nice pommy but I can't remember his name but I will be training with him tonight at muay Thai. I also met Tonci this morning while at was at the Tiger office he was checking in, we met on the TMT forums a while ago as we were both coming here in July, there are 2 more Aussies we are expecting soon Tony and Jeremy. Now I'm sick of writing and I have to keep a journal of what we learnt so laterz until the next update.
