Hey curious readers,
We woke up in the bus for thousandth time because it wasn't that exactly comfortable like bed. The whole bus was so cold. However, we finally arrived Potosi after around 10 hours on the road. It was about 6-ish in the morning when we hopped off the bus. We were starving so we went to someplace to grab a quick breakfast. We ordered pancakes, french toast, omelets, coffee, tea and more. We ate the breakfast like we were eating on the hot dog competition because we were running late for the mining tour. Luckily, we were barely on time.
After disposing our bags in the locked storage, we hopped on the bus. At first, we rode the bus to the warehouse to gather clothes, shoes and equipment for mining tour. Then, we went to the top of the mountain to see an amazing view of Potosi and the mine. After that, we actually went to mining shack. They showed us some minerals like zinc, silver, lead, and tin. Finally, we entered the mining tunnel. It was so muddy and chilly inside there. After ducking our heads so often, we followed the cart rail to the Tio "the uncle" shrine. The interesting facts about the Tio is the miners honor him by presenting him the coca leaves, alcohol, and cigarettes. Also, the miners believe that Tio is prominent breeding mate with Pachamama, Mother Nature, so the miners encourage the breeding between these twos for better minerals. Also the miners' wives aren't allowed to enter the mine place because Pachamama will become jealous of their wives. We stayed in mining shack for an hour and half then went back to the warehouse and returned the equipment.
After mine, we were hungry, so we went to the same restaurant as breakfast but we ordered with lunch menu. We ordered hamburger, fries with slices of hot dog, some desert foods. Yummm! Then we went to bus station for other road trip to our last destination, Salar De Uyuni! After 6-hour bus trip to Salar De Uyuni, we got an opportunity to sleep in one really cool hotel. The hotel that we sleep in for a night, made their rooms similar as European style train. Rooms are really small but it gives us a hand-on experience of "sleeping in train". I'm really looking forward to see Salt flats tomorrow!
Sincerely,
Jayne
