I feel like writing in English :> I haven't spoken German for a long time and i am feeling like i think in English, so it's actually easier to write the way i think…whatever. I heard so many things from people who have been abroad or people who did the same kind of voluntary like I am doing right now. I really can say, a lot o things I heard were not also true for me. Every experience, in the same country or even in the same town, is so unique, that sometimes its better to say nothing at all. So maybe for example there is a volunteer who was caught by the police because of smoking outside (it is forbidden to smoke outside, at streets…). So she will tell another volunteer that it is so dangerous here to get caught for doing illegal things, police is eeeeverywhere, you have to be really careful. So maybe there is another volunteer, who didn't even noticed the police walking around or anything else. So she will say life is so easy here. You can do everything you want, they dont care at all.
Trips can be different in a lot of ways. The hostmum from another girl is always afraid because of going out at night. So she has to be at home before 10 o clock. She says it's to dangerous; she is not allowed to go out at night. She says people here will rob her or do worse things to her. So she just doesn't go out after ten and she stays with the belief that it's dangerous in Nairobi to go out. At my hostmums place it's different. We have a key, we can go out when we want, we can come home when we want. We can do everything, also sleeping outside and never ever has happened anything to us. So how can it be similar at all? I would say it is not dangerous to go out. It is peaceful and all Kenyan are friendly. Also the trip from the other girls who even live with me at same hostplace is so different. I It's not only about the individual perception or experiences of people, it's also something else. I think I am a magnet for people with who I want to be with. So the other girls at my hostplace attract other people like I do. That's maybe the reason why we were all together at the beginning and now life just went on. People are looking for the environment which is compatible with their personality, likes and don't likes. And we stay with people who are good for us or people from who we want to learn something or anything else - the same like in Austria.
