NZ day 16
Blue Penguins
We woke up in Dunedin this morning (after the worst sleep on the s*** bed) to a beautiful sunny clear skies day. WOO HOO!
So, we were to ride north today BACK to the town of Christchurch. We did plan a stop or 2 along the way, especially to see penguins today. Which, we finally saw in Oamaru!!!
Now... it was not the way we expected to see them, all huddled together in a mass like you see on the discovery channel. Instead. there are only 3 species of penguins that are indigenous to NZ. The one's we saw today are called Blue Penguins and are of course nocturnal. They also are very vicious we found out as well as are burrowers and like to live in these little boxes or underneath rocks. They are pretty cute lil guys and we were able to snap a few pictures albeit them being nocturnal and all. It was pretty cool. Check the pics.
We also got to hang out on Katiki beach, and do some sea shell hunting, which was fun, and got Ashley the chance to finally set foot on a NZ beach.
So, We are back again In christchurch, staying back in the hotel So for 2 more nights. Tomorrow We are taking in some sights, and the one most excited about is the Antartic center. where they apparently actually have frozen a room to be exactly like Antartica. We can't wait!
I also want to say, thanks to everyone for the messages and emails and texts. I cant respond by phone (yet) but will once I get back on US soil in a few days. I miss all you guys!!!
