as much appeal as the smoggy, sticky and endlessly busy streets of bangkok have, it was time to venture further afield! we headed 4hours north - west to the lush, green, almost wild-thai jungle like, national park called Erawan, - named after the elephant god, due to its resemblence overall, apparently. Needless to say it was beautiful. We trekked our way up the semi-path , then climbed rock, trees, roots, pools and mud to take in the beauty of each of the 7 levels that make up the different parts of the waterfall. Despite a slow slog at times, sticks that looked like snakes, creepy noises and monkeys ready to bounce on us or more just our bags, we made it to the top a few hours later and it was definaitely worth it! Albeit not to hang around too long at the top, due to a slight ereriness about the place, again the monkeys and the impending doom that earlier thunder had threatened. Despite the path being under thick canopy we got wet, very wet, admittedly we were far from dry no thanks to the delights of the humidity and to be honest in need of a good shower!!! We tried to use it to our advantage but realised in the end, after a hairaising blast drive home from our toothless driver - not to disimilar to the old guy Jafar dresses up as in Aladdin (that kinda creepy) - that we'd still need a shower when we got home! It took a little longer than expected, despite ' Jafar's ' best efforts to overtake, undertake, use the hard shoulder, drive over potholes, roadworks and use incredible speed; rush-hour Bangkok was letting no one through and in no hurry. When we did finally and thankfully - more so relief that we were still alive, rather than to Jafar - reach the drop off point, an iced, alcoholic beverage was in great need, followed by some delightful thai street-food...all in preparation for another trip today...
