Yesterday (Saturday) I decided to take myself to the Museo de la Nacion in central Lima. I decided I'd go by bus as I've got quite used to taking them now, asking directions and getting people on the buses to help me. Plus I knew where the museum was as I had passed it every day for the last week or so going back and forth to CIMA. Getting the bus was easy enough and it stopped literally outside the front doors. I quickly grabbed a bite to eat and then got my ticket for the museum.
The museum itself is actually a huge building with a theatre underneath it as well. As I was there a dance company was practising for an upcoming ballet which looked good. Anyway, I spent a good few hours wandering around the museum. All the artefacts there were pre-Inca but it was really interesting to see so many artefacts (lots from many of the sites that we've visited in Peru and Bolivia also).
I even managed to befriend one of the security guards (Jose Pepe) who took me on a little tour of his section of the museum. He was really friendly and asked if I'd take some photos of him around the museum. It was quite funny really, bless him. Anyway, he left me in one of the rooms and promptly returned with a little slip of paper with his email address and a little message which translated roughly as "my good friend from lovely England. Many thanks, Jose Pepe". So yesterday I sent him some of the photos in an email. I'll see if he replies!
Today, I left my hostel and the owner was really cool. He had sorted out my problem with my door and then decided he was going to move me to a nice room and drop the price which was great. Anyway, Arturo said it had been a pleasure having me there and gave me a hostel t-shirt to say goodbye (well I'm going back in a week just before the trip home). I've returned to Huacachina near Ica to soak up the sun for a few days, do a bit of swimming, maybe visit some bodegas and generally relax a little before heading home for the chaos that is Christmas!
