Arrival, Nov. 16th: Today I am in Luxembourg, Luxembourg (the country name is the capital name too). I arrived here at 6:30 A.M. It was a 3 and a half hour flight from Greece. For this country I took two planes because my first plane landed in Germany. It is about 40°F. I got my rental car ( it was an ugly car, it was puke green). I went to my hotel after stopping for breakfast, I ate gromper keeschelche (potato pancakes). I am staying at the Hotel Le Royal in Luxembourg. After dumping my luggage into my hotel room, I went to go get my Euros (the currency of luxembourg).
Why Luxembourg: I picked Luxembourg for three main reasons. The first reason being that I think such a small country deserves some tourism. The second reason is that I personally love to ski, and I've heard the skiing near Belgium is spectacular! The last reason is that Luxembourg seems very beautiful.
Packing: For this country I packed my blue fleece, my pink tennis shoes, fuzzy black boots, my warm pajamas, three long sleeve shirts, three pairs of jeans, my favorite orange hat, my heavy winter coat and my white gloves. I also packed my toiletries consisting of a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hairbrush, makeup, shampoo, conditioner, and my lotion.
Day 1 of 4, Nov 16th: Since I got up early I took an hour nap. I have a full day ahead of me, even with a nap it is only 7:45 A.M. My first stop was the Vianden Castle, one of the largest fortified castles from the 10th century, located in Vianden, and it was expanded many times by several different counts until the 1500s. The castle is so beautiful, and most defiantly huge! I spent a extraordinary amount of time here. I was here so long I bought lunch here. I had a fish sandwich. After lunch, I take my travels down a mountain. Below the magnificent castle lays its village, more specifically the Vianden Village. The Vianden village is by a river, so I saw people fishing behind shops, and shops selling fish. Then ( at about 3:30 P.M.) I hiked at Beforter Plateau, it starts in Dillingen and it also ends there. The trail has many spectacular sites; sandstone cliffs, water falls, and many extraordinary plants, it was amazing! After hiking around for about two hours, I went back to my hotel. I had gromper keeschelche for dinner. Yes, potato pancakes are that delicious!
Day 2 of 4, Nov. 17th: Today I woke up to my cell phone ringing none stop! I answered it, it was my mom asking if I was okay. I told her I was fine and told her about my travels. In the end all she wanted was for me to stop in Belgium and buy here chocolate! I also saw the Ansembourg castle, it used to belong to the Valley of the Seven Castles,it is in Luxembourg, it is right above the town of Ansembourg, and I couldn't go inside because it is a private residence, but it is still a pretty sight. I mostly took picture of the Ansembourg castle. After marveling at this ginormous castle, I went to shop and eat in the Ansembourg Village. I ate friture de la moselle (deep-fried river fish), it was really tasty. I also ordered desert, quetsche tort (plum tart). After my filling lunch I went back to shopping for another four hours. Then I went to the hotel and exercised a bit the piece of plum tart made me feel bad. Then I ordered room service for dinner.
Day 3 of 4, Nov. 18th: Today I walk up quite late! It was 10:30 A.M! I scrambled into my clothes and ran out the door. I had to come back though because I forgot my phone! I was in my exercise clothes of sorts and so I went to do the Circular walk Limpertsberg, it was a long walk! The scenery is worth it (I also need to get some exercise)! My walk was tiring, so I went to swim in the pool of the hotel. For lunch I had a turkey sandwich. After lunch I drove to the mountains to ski. It wasn't a long drive, but I was mad because I had to rent skis. After skiing to my hearts content I drove back to the hotel. When I got back, I ate some turkey and fell right asleep.
Day 4 of 4, Nov. 19th: Today I got up late this morning so I could sit down and eat breakfast, instead of rushing to the sight seeing. Today I got a omelet, it was satisfying. Then I went to The Bock and Casemate, I went to Casemate tunnels which are super cool and have many stalactites and stalagmites that are absolutely gorgeous. I also went to Le Bock which forms the east side of the Haute Ville, the outcropping is huge and is covered in moss. After that I had lunch, I had deep fried fish again. Then I went back to my hotel to pack up most of my stuff.
Souvenirs: I ended up buying my mom some Belgium chocolate . I bought some things including, a mini replica of the Vianden castle, a Luxembourg country keychain, and a snow globe of Beforter Plateau in the winter.
Departure, Nov. 20th:I am leaving here at 5 AM. I will arrive in Slovenia in about 5 to 6 hours. The airport wasn't crowded at all! I bought a bagel for breakfast. Goodbye Luxembourg, hello Slovenia!
