Great Fall of Skiv. We went on a 3 hour minibus journey to a remote part of the great wall of china today. Theres a big area of the wall that was restored in the 1950's, and is packed full of tourists and comercials and apparently has the soul of a wet newpaper. But our youth hostel runs a trip way out to this area up a mountain where you're completely alone. The wall isnt restored in any way at all at this place so the walls are a bit crumbly and in places very steep. Skiv fell off and slid 15 metres down the mountain. Bruises a plenty and a ripped pocket on his jeans but other than that, it was all quite funny. Weirdest bit was at the highest checkpoint lodge type thing on the wall we got to (you can see one on this photo, the stone hut). This one had no roof and was quite derelict, but didnt seem to bother the random guy who climbs up there twice a day to sell us cheap snack food and engrave "i climbed the great wall of china" medals. You might think climbing the wall takes no great effort, but the mountain and the gradient of some sections is exhausting. Skivs medal says "manvel" instead of Tom. No-one is sure why. Weird food last night, frog, fish heads, noodles tofu and fungi....and im actually being serious when i say it was delicious!!!! Everything is really different out here. Either way, im going to get back to joe and jess now. We are in the youth hostel and watching 40 year old virgin on DVD with about 20 other travellers. Catch you all later! Tom xxxx
