Day nine, the final day: 187 miles
I woke up at 5.30am and got out of my tent. It looked like a promising and glorious day ahead. As it was too early to get ready (gates open at 7am) I went back to bed. When I awoke at 7am it started raining just as I was climbing out of my tent. So back in it was. I decided to continue reading the book I started last night (Survivor- Fatima Whitbread). When the rain stopped I did the same again only for it to start raining again. So back in and read another chapter. Finally at 8 am I managed to get up, shower and start packing up. As I was almost finished packing up
My tent it started raining again so I grabbed my stuff and scrambled out of the rain to the kitchen. Toasted a sandwich, made myself a cup of tea and back to reading. The rain was relentless. At some point the farmer came out and we had a chat. And off he went to feed the pony. He decided to leave him inside as he is old and standing out in the rain all day wouldn't be much fun. I concurred. Finally at 10am there was a break in the clouds, I dashed to finish loading up Sheila and off we went on our merry way. Having taken the wrong turn we were quite rightly taken back to Glastonbury to visit some of the sights we hadn't the evening before. We went up to the Tor and then to Glastonbury Cathedral. I didn't go in as I had only very little time and it didn't warrant the entry fee. Had had the morning then obviously yes. From here we headed to Salisbury. We stopped at Stonehenge, a bonus, it wasn't planned. Again it really didn't make sense getting a ticket to go in as again time was so limited. Next stop Salisbury Cathedral. I did want to go in briefly but again popping in for 10 minutes or so seemed rather extravagant for the suggested donation. So instead we headed for Winchester. When I entered the Cathedral there was an organ recital. It was beautiful. Once the recital came to an end I explored the Cathedral and discovered that Jane Austen is buried there. Another bonus. By now it was high time to leave so Sheila and I set off home at 6pm. Just after 7pm we reached Twickenham. As much as I have enjoyed this great trip I found even greater pleasure being back in my beloved city.
