Trailor on Tour
Sorry for the delay in updating this site, but the hostel is being refurbished and the internet has been a bit hit and miss lately. Also, who would have thought that there would be a greater proliferation of internet places in SE Asia, and they would be more technically advanvced than here - still having trouble with photographs!
Anywany, I have recently realised that Freemantle is actually spelt Fremantle, or if you are a local or a hip and trendy traveller (not like me) it is known as Freo.
The place I'm staying in is called The Pirate's Backpackers and is very nice, despite the renovation work going on around me. Whilst this is the case the kitchen is out of action and they are providing 3 meals every day. Sadly there is a very limited choice of dishes (Lee where are you when I need you?) and every meal involves a bbq and sausages. There are plenty of reasonably priced eateries around and have even managed to get some decent coffee - although it's called a flat white here, as opposed to a fluffy white I guess. No sign of Starbucks here yet though - have they started doing the divine Christmas egg nog lattes yet?
Isn't it sad the little things you miss when you're away? Still on the subject of food - one of my personal favourites - they seem to do everything here with white chocolate, Twix, Bounty, M & M's to name but a few, all of which need sampling in the name of research!
I shared my 8 sleeper dorm with 2 Canadian girls called Sarah and Kendra for a couple of days, but every sentence incorporated the word 'dude' - slightly irritating after the 50th time! They were still better than the 2 smelly older women who followed, but fortunately only stayed one day. I am now sharing with Lacey from the US and Tanya from Ireland, but originally from Russia. I was chatting to Tanya yesterday, when she asked my age and was shocked when I told her - turns out she just turned 18! I AM old enough to be her MOTHER!!!!!!!!!
Lisa and Matt (her boyfriend) arrived late Tuesday and we met up on Wednesday. They are staying with Sam, her husband Paul and 15 month old daughter Grace. I met Lisa and Sam (who were already mates) when I started working in The Doom and Gloom (sorry - Horse and Groom) pub at the end of mum and dad's road. Sam married Paul, an Aussie, and has lived here for the last 5 years - the last time we saw or spoke to each other was at my wedding! Have you got all that?
On Wednesday we met up for a coffee in town and then went back to Sam's for dinner. Lisa delivered my parcel from England, which included my Lonely Planet guide, some deodorant, bank statements, letters, some money from mum and dad and a double decker from Robin, which even had a Christmas bow on it!
Thursday I met Lisa and Matt and went on a little shopping spree to replace some worn out clothes. Went to the local Target (the Oz equivalent of Matalan) and got some cheap stuff, although still finding everything here pricey in comparison to SE Asia - I keep having to remind myself that it's still far cheaper than England.
The evening was then spent in the hostel chatting to a lovely couple from Blackburn about all things Englsih that we missed, before retiring to my bunk bed.
Tomorrow we head south, so until then. Oh and thank you for your concern everyone, but my toilet habits are gradually returning to normal, thankfully.
