Trailor on Tour
Friday morning I was up early and on my way to the car hire place. Lisa, Matt and I had decided to head further south to the Margaret River area. They had both forgotten to bring their driving licence, so the driving was down to me, but it was decided that at least this way we would have much more freedom to go exactly where we wanted.
Things started badly, with the 20 minute drive to Sam's taking over an hour. I just kept going round in circles and every time I asked for directions I felt like I was on some hidden camera show - let's send her this way for a laugh!!! Eventually picked up my two travelling companions and headed off for the 280km drive to the region.
As we were running behind schedule, we decided to stop in Dunsborough and book into a motel before it got too late. We checked in to the Best Western, changed in to our swimmers and headed back out to Smith's Beach and Canal Rocks. Stunning coastline greeted us, which looked like the picture here, but which is not one of my photos yet. We had been out of the car for about 5 minutes, when I shouted for Lisa and Matt to come and look - stood on the road about 50 metres in front of me were 2 kangaroos!!!!
After the sun went down we headed back to town and asked at reception what there was to do in Dunsborough in the evening, to which she replied "the supermarket's open until 9". Not quite my idea of a night out, so the unanimous decision was take out and beers in the room. We bought some local wine and ordered pizza from Big Pig Pizzas and spent the evening watching Godsend and Kill Bill Vol 2 on the TV.
Day 2 - Back to the beautiful coastline and the bay where the Margaret River meets the Indian Ocean. I opted for a dip, although it was absolutely freezing and felt more like a melted ice cap than the Indian Ocean. The area is also renowned for it's surf breaks, with many surfing championships taking place here every year, so we sat on the beach and watched the display of ocean acrobatics in awe.
From here to The Howard Park Winery for some wine tasting of their Mad Fish wine - lovely, but a shame I was driving. The whole area around Margaret River is world renowned for it's wines and there are vineyards every mile or so.
Lunch stop was then at Yallingup Beach and then we tried to visit the Ngilgi Caves, but weren't lucky. Everything here seems to happen far earlier than back home - shops shutting, tourist attractions closing, dinner, etc, so by 1530, when we arrived at the caves they were closed! Decided to have a slow drive back and stopped in Busselton and Bunbury on the way back to again admire the breathtaking scenery.
Back to Sam's for a bbq at about 1930, then I headed back to the hostel, only to find very drunk people passed out on the floor outside my room. I put them in the recovery position so they wouldn't die in the night. Honestly, the youth of today!!!!!!!!
Shes xx
