Today was a mixture of temples, exercise and cocktails!
A 9am start again! This time we were headed for Sukhothai Historical Park for a bike tour of the ancient city. Our transport from the hotel was a great surprise- a huge pick up truck style taxi with benches along the side! After much amusement and bouncing around the truck we arrive at the bike shop and pick out weapons of choice. The bikes are pretty ancient and it's hilarious watching everyone (including myself) wobble around on them. We follow Bond and start our bike tour. No sooner had we arrived at the first stop then the heavens opened and the rain jackets were out! I finally got to wear my beast of a jacket that I bought in 2008 in Cusco, Peru! Bond gives us a quick history of the temple complex and we take picture of the first Buddha statue.
As we walk back down the marble steps to our bikes, I completely lost my footing, slipped and banged my thigh and elbow on the corner of a step. Immediately I wanted to cry as the pain and embarrassment set in, but I kept a British stiff upper lip and laughed it off (inside I was swearing a lot and knowing I was going to end up with a beaut of a bruise) why do these things always happen to me! Haha!!
We cycle on to the next part of the complex to view more impressive ruins very similar to Ankor Wat in Cambodia. I am in pain the whole time and quickly become the butt of the jokes "be careful Tracey, watch your step Tracey, don't fall over Tracey" it's lucky I have an awesome sense of honour lol!! Bond explains that there are over 50 different representations of Buddha in Thailand.
The tour continues with bursts of rain in between; it's safe to say we all got soaked! At the end of the complex the peddle on my bike brakes!! Why oh why! I quickly fixed it and we cycled back to the shop.
Time then for a quick lunch of vegetable noodle soup and a coke, which costs me £1.10....bargain...then we take the lorry/taxi back to the hotel and relax in the pool for a couple of hours before meeting for dinner.
At dinner we are yet again joined by rain, because of this we weren't able to go to the local food market so Bond kindly buys some fruit from it for us to try. The cocktails go down far too easily and then it's a quick 7/11 stop for chocolate milk (in a moment of tipsyness) before bedtime!
