Today we headed to visit the reclining Buddah at Wot Puh and experienced a boat tour of the Bangkok canals before embarking on a 7hour bus journey to Sukhothai!
After a hearty breakfast, in which I ate lots of noodles, we checked out and left the hotel at 9am. I was def still feeling the effects of jet lag and was exhausted. We took a local public bus to the temple of Wot Poh, in the centre of Bangkok. The journey took us through China town and the flower market, where lots of locals were hard at work.
At the temple of Wot Poh, Bond explained to us the history of the temple and the dynasty of the first four kings or Ramas of Thailand. Rama I was Chinese, therefore the temple had lots of intricate Chinese carvings and decoration.
The main attraction of the temple is the giant gold reclining Buddha. Entering the temple you have to remove your shoes and ensure your shoulders are covered as a sign of respect. The Buddha was very impressive and the walls were covered in Chinese/thai style paintings. The feet of the Buddha are covered in mother of pearls and at least 5m high. We then tour the rest of temple which is full of golden Buddha statues and pagodas.
Next we go to the docks and board a motor power boat. I really struggled getting in and as always nearly fell in the water (I def don't have sea legs!) we zoomed through the canals and waterways in the city. There are loads of shanty style houses along the water, most of which look like they are about to sink at any minute.
After the boat tour we head to the bus station. We have time for lunch and vsurprise surprise and I turned the corner of the food court the rest of the group were queuing up at KFC! Haha! So I decided it would be rude not to join them! Lol! The bust journey was pretty long but we did have Resident Evil (in Thai) to entertain us....twice!!
After what seemed an eternity we arrived at the Pailyn hotel in Sukhothai at 8:30pm. It was straight to the restaurant after checking in. A few of us ordered spring rolls and a main believing that the spring rolls would be a starter. Oh no! On each plate there were at least 10 of them...tasted good though!
Another 9am start tomorrow to take part in a bicycle tour
