5:30 in the morning came quickly. We got sorted and were at the airport by 6:30. This is how the day started - 4 hour delay on our flight. Bam! Waited. Waited. Waited. On the plane, waiting longer. They announce they were waiting for 3 passengers. Waited longer. Waiting for 1 passenger. Waited. An hour passes by and they announce that they are waiting for them to go through the baggage to remove the persons bags that isn't on the plane. Waited. Started on our way to the runway. Another announcement that they are returning to the gate to fix a computer problem. Ugh! Waited yet again. Finally, everything sorted and the plane took off. The flight seemed so long but I kept busy watching some TV and playing Candy Crush. The remainder of the trip went smoothly.
We waited forever at the baggage carousel. I got my bag quickly but Peter's took forever. After about 20 minutes of watching the same bags go by, Peter realized that one of the bags was actually his. It was turned over so he didn't recognize it. I didn't recognize it either. We had to laugh at our stupidity. This is what happens after a long haul flight!
Vacations are what you make of them. I know myself well enough that if I don't keep busy, I get bored, especially when on holiday. I've learned so much about myself, people and this big world of ours.
It was a new experience for me to travel with someone, I typically go alone. I know in the future I have to have a better plan in place. Being with someone who knew the area great at times because I could just coast and not have to worry about where I was going, what I was doing, or the language barrier.
The flights every few days took it's toll on me. Since this was only a two week journey, I crammed way too much into such a short time and I think it burned me out. On my 6 week trips, I didn't seem so tired. Maybe it's just age catching up with me.
I was excited to get home and have a good night's rest in my own bed. Dorothy, from The Wizard of Oz says it best, "There's no place like home."
Until my next trip, thanks for reading and following along!
