All Roads lead to the Mosque!
After a very early start in aticipation of the long drive to Murchison Fallls NP, we hit the crazy streets of the Ugandan Capital city Kampala. Somehow we took a wrong turn and ended up lost in the side streets of this crowded city. No matter which way we turned we seemed to head to towardsa huge Mosque! After about half an hour and begining to suspect that Allah was trying to tell us something we broke back onto the main road- much relieved. The indication that Sas was stressed was that she gobblied up a huge packet of Haribo sweets before we found our way again!
When we got back on track the going was easy on a brand new road, but this soon turned to slippery mud. We just avoided getting stuck and pass many stranded trucks, befor ariving at Murchison Falls NP. On our way to the lodge we got our first glimpses of the aminals; Buffalo, Bushbuck, Impala, Worthogs and an impossible number of Baboons. When we arrived at the Red Chillie Lodge we cooked ourselves Lasagne on an open fire. There were hundreds of bugs in the lodge so we felt the need to use a mosquito net for the first time, only to find that the net had more bugs inside than there were outside. Then we went for a few drinks in the bar overlooing the Nile and watched the Warthogs family rumage through the camp!
The following day we took a car ferry to the opposite bank of the Nile and saw our first Hippos, only to find that the only available guide was back on the side that we started! After waiting for an hour for the guide to get the next boat we went for a speedy game drive in the NP. In the short time we were there we saw Giraffe, Elephant, Water Buffaloes and many antelopes. In the afternoon we boarded a boat for a cruise up the nile to the foot of the Falls. The boat trip was fantastic, was saw all manner of wildlife in the River or on its banks, of which we enjoyed the Elephant, Hippos and Croc's the most. The only slightly alarming part of the experince was that our boat's engine kept cutting out! This left us drifting on the river ever closer to the banks, with huge crocs and hippos and at one point even the falls!
